화성시, ‘콤팩트시티' 우수상 수상

[브레이크뉴스경기남부=화성 이현준기자] 화성시가 ‘2024년 콤팩트시티 대상’에서 균형발전 부문 우수상을 수상했다.

5일 한국프레스센터 국제회의장에서 열린 ‘2024년 콤팩트시티 대상’은 조선일보가 주최하고 행정안전부 · 국토교통부 등이 후원하여 인구감소와 도심공동화 심화, 1인 가구 증가 등에 따른 도시 문제를 해결하고 지속 가능한 도시 공간 개발의 모델을 제시한 우수 지자체를 선정하고자 추진됐다.

균형발전 부문의 우수상을 수상한 화성시는 100만 시민의 고차원적 여가문화 수요의 균형발전을 달성하기 위해 ‘보타닉가든 화성’을 역점 시책으로 추진함으로써 △동부권 랜드마크 여울공원 전시온실 건립 △서부권 보타닉가든(우리꽃식물원) 리모델링 △기존 거점공원 리뉴얼을 통한 동부권 공공정원화사업 등을 단계적으로 추진하여 콤팩트시티가 지향하는 포용적 균형발전에 기여한 것으로 평가받았다.

손임성 화성부시장은 “이번 수상은 화성시가 각종 택지개발과 도시개발사업을 통한 양적 증가로 직면한 다양한 불균형의 문제를 해결하기 위해 고심하고 있음을 입증한 것”이라며, “앞으로도 2025년 1월 화성특례시 출범을 앞둔 화성시가 동서균형 발전을 바탕으로 100만 시민의 삶과 질을 높이기 위한 지속가능한 정책을 펼치겠다”고 수상소감을 전했다.

한편, 이번 시상식은 미래도시 및 균형발전의 2개 부문에서 각각 정책과 기술의 세부 부문 나눠 총 4개 분야에 대해 7개 지방자치단체가 수상했다.
