청년자원봉사단 위아원 서울경기서부 지역연합회(대표 이중원·이하 서울경기서부 지역연합회)는 9월12일 보도자료에서 “지난 3년간 헌혈로 생명 나눔을 실천한 청년자원봉사단 위아원 서울경기서부 지역연합회가 올 하반기에도 생명 나눔을 실천한다. 청년자원봉사단 위아원이 전국적으로 실시하는 위아레드 헌혈 캠페인 ‘더 미라클 모먼트(The Miracle Moment) Part.2’를 서울경기서부 지역연합회도 지난 3일부터 시작한 것이다. 이번 헌혈 캠페인을 통해 서울경기서부 지역연합회는 약 2달간 1260명의 헌혈을 목표로 하고 있다”면서 “위아원의 헌혈 캠페인 ‘더 미라클 모먼트 Part.2’의 주제는 ‘두 번째 삶을 선물하는 순간’으로, 단순히 헌혈을 넘어 생명을 나누고, 헌혈을 하나의 문화로 정착시키는 청년들의 열정을 뜻한다. 하반기 서울경기서부 지역연합회의 헌혈 캠페인 첫 테이프는 영등포지부가 끊었다. 지난 3일 오전 9시부터 오후 4시까지 서울지하철 신림선 보라매공원역 1번 출구 앞에서 대한적십자사의 헌혈 버스 2대를 이용해 헌혈을 실시한 것”이라고 알렸다.

헌혈에 참여한 27세 황윤정 씨는 “이번이 벌써 8번째 헌혈이다. 잠시 따끔한 순간이 있지만, 제 헌혈로 누군가의 생명을 구할 수 있다고 생각하니 그 어느 때보다 뿌듯했다”며 “헌혈은 단순한 봉사 이상의 가치가 있는 일이다. 다른 사람의 생명을 살리는 동시에 저 자신도 더 건강한 삶을 살 수 있도록 동기를 부여받는다”고 소감을 전했다. 32세 정윤재 씨는 “코로나 팬데믹 당시 처음 헌혈에 동참한 이후 꾸준히 헌혈하고 있다”며 “당시 혈액 수급이 매우 어려운 상황이었지만 나의 작은 참여가 다른 사람의 생명을 살리는 데 도움이 될 수 있다는 것을 알게 된 후부터, 헌혈의 중요성을 더욱 깊이 깨닫고 실천하고 있다”고 말했다.
이번 캠페인을 격려하기 위해 현장을 방문한 서울중앙혈액원 헌혈개발팀 정노식 팀장은 “하절기와 동절기는 혈액 수급이 어려운 시기라, 이번 위아레드 캠페인처럼 청년들이 자발적으로 헌혈에 나서 주면 정말 큰 도움이 된다”며 감사의 뜻을 표했다.
자원봉사단 위아원 서울경기서부 지역연합회측은 “헌혈 캠페인은 전국적인 혈액 수급 부족 사태를 해결하기 위한 자발적인 봉사활동으로, 매년 위아원과 대한적십자사가 함께 진행하고 있다. 특히, 하절기(6~8월)와 동절기(12~2월) 등 혈액 수급이 어려운 시기에 집중적으로 진행된다”고 전하고 “혈액은 무엇으로도 대체할 수 없는 생명의 필수 요건이지만, 최근 저출산 및 고령화 등 현상으로 혈액을 공급하는 헌혈자는 점점 줄어들고 있다. 이런 문제를 해결하기 위해 위아원은 2022년부터 대한적십자사와 협약을 맺고 집단 헌혈 활동을 펼쳐왔다. 위아원은 2022년 7월 30일 출범했으며 전국적으로 7만여 명의 청년자원봉사자로 구성된 단체로, 2022년 8월부터 총 4차례에 걸쳐 헌혈 캠페인을 진행해 왔다.”고 소개했다. 지난 2022년 10월 1일부터 2일까지 24시간 동안 7만 1121명이 헌혈 신청을 완료해 기네스 세계기록에 등재되기도 했다.
서울경기서부 지역연합회 관계자는 “앞으로도 서울경기서부 지역연합회는 혈액 수급 부족 사태를 해결하기 위해 계속해서 헌혈 캠페인을 펼치며, 다양한 봉사로 세상에 빛과 소금 같은 존재가 되도록 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.

The first tape of the Seoul-Gyeonggi West Regional Association’s blood donation campaign in the second half of the year was cut by the Yeongdeungpo branch. Blood donation was carried out using two blood donation buses of the Korean Red Cross from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the 3rd in front of Exit 1 of Boramae Park Station on the Seoul Subway Sillim Line.” Hwang Yun-jeong, 27, who participated in the blood donation, said, “This is already my 8th time donating blood. There were some stinging moments, but I felt more proud than ever because I thought that my blood donation could save someone’s life.” “Donating blood is more valuable than just volunteering. “I feel motivated to live a healthier life while saving others’ lives,” he said. “I have been donating blood consistently since I first participated in the blood donation during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said 32-year-old Jeong Yun-jae. “At the time, it was very difficult to obtain blood, but after realizing that my small participation could help save others’ lives, I have come to realize the importance of blood donation and put it into practice.”
Jeong No-sik, head of the Blood Donation Development Team at Seoul Central Blood Center, who visited the site to encourage this campaign, expressed his gratitude, saying, “Summer and winter are seasons when it is difficult to obtain blood, so it is a great help if young people voluntarily donate blood like this We Are Red campaign.”
The Seoul Gyeonggi West Regional Association of the volunteer group We Are One said, “The blood donation campaign is a voluntary service activity to solve the nationwide blood shortage, and We Are One and the Korean Red Cross conduct it together every year. In particular, it is intensively carried out during the summer (June to August) and winter (December to February) when blood supply is difficult,” he said. “Blood is an irreplaceable essential for life, but recently, due to low birth rates and aging population, the number of blood donors is decreasing. To solve this problem, WeAwon has been carrying out group blood donation activities since 2022 under an agreement with the Korean Red Cross. WeAwon was launched on July 30, 2022 and is an organization comprised of 70,000 young volunteers nationwide. It has carried out blood donation campaigns a total of four times since August 2022.” It was also registered in the Guinness World Records when 71,121 people completed blood donation applications in 24 hours from October 1 to 2, 2022. An official from the Seoul-Gyeonggi West Regional Association stated, “In the future, the Seoul-Gyeonggi West Regional Association will continue to hold blood donation campaigns to resolve the blood shortage and strive to be the light and salt of the world through various volunteer services.”
