브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= 이재용 삼성전자 회장이 15일(현지시간) 프랑스 리옹 소재 그루파마 스타디움(Groupama Stadium)에서 열린 ‘2024 리옹 국제기능올림픽’ 폐회식에 참석했다.
이 회장은 ‘국제기능올림픽 최상위 타이틀 후원사’인 삼성전자를 대표해 참석했으며, 기술강국 대한민국의 위상을 높인 국가대표 선수단을 격려하고 수상자에게 메달도 직접 수여했다.
이 회장이 대회에 참석한 것은 ‘2009년 캐나다 캘거리 국제기능 올림픽대회’, ‘2022년 국제기능올림픽 특별대회 고양’에 이어 3번째이다.
이 회장은 이날 일찍부터 기술인의 길을 선택해 대한민국 산업의 성장과 발전에 기여하고 있는 젊은 기술인들에 대한 감사와 존경의 뜻을 전했다.
이 회장은 폐회식에 참석한 대한민국 국가대표 선수들을 만나 “젊은 기술인재가 흘린 땀방울이 기술강국 대한민국의 기반”이라며 “대학을 가지 않아도 기술인으로서 존중받고 성장할 수 있도록 아낌없이지원하겠다”고 약속했다.
삼성은 기술인재 저변 확대와 우수인재 양성을 위해 국제기능올림픽 대회를 2007년부터 지속 후원해 오고 있다.

삼성전자는 생산기술연구소 내에 ‘삼성전자 국가대표 훈련센터’를 마련해 산업기계, 모바일로보틱스 등 직종별 첨단 훈련장비를 갖춰 최적화된 훈련 환경을 제공하고 있다.
이번 대회에 삼성전자·전기·중공업 등 삼성 관계사 소속 국가대표 선수는 총 19개 직종에 24명이 참가했다.
아울러 삼성은 2007년부터 전국기능경기대회를 18년간 장기 후원해오고 있으며, 대회에서 우수한 성적을 거둔 학생들을 특별채용하고 있다.
2007년부터 지난해까지 삼성전자·전기·디스플레이 등에서 채용한 고졸 기술인재는 총 1600여명에 달한다.
한편, 이 회장은 리옹 국제기능올림픽 폐회식 참석 이후 폴란드를 방문해 △현지매장 방문 △연구소 간담회 △가전 생산공장 점검 등 명절 현장 경영을 이어갔다.
이 회장은 매년 명절 연휴 해외 사업장을 방문해 현지 사업을 점검하고 임직원들을 격려하는 현장 경영을 이어왔다.
올 16~18일(현지시간) 추석 연휴에는 폴란드를 찾아 연구소와 가전 생산공장 현장을 점검하고 임직원들을 격려했다.
