정진석 대통령 비서실장이 고 장기표 신문명정책연구원장 빈소를 24일 조문했다고 대통령실이 전했다.
대통령실에 따르면 정 비서실장은 이날 오후 서울 종로구 서울대병원 장례식장에 마련된 빈소를 찾아 윤석열 대통령·부인 김건희 여사가 전한 위로의 뜻을 유족 측에 전했다.
윤 대통령은 지난 22일 "장기표 선생은 노동·민주화운동으로 우리 시대를 지키신 진정한 귀감이셨다"며 "장기표 선생 뜻을 잊지 않고 기억하겠다"며 애도 뜻을 표한 바 있다
앞서 지난달 30일 김 여사도 장 원장이 입원 중이던 경기 일산 국립암센테로 직접 문병 간 것으로 알려진 가운데 당시 장 원장은 "얼른 나아 영부인께 맛있는 식사를 대접하겠다"고 했고, 김 여사는 "약속 꼭 지키셔야 한다"고 답한 것으로 전해졌다.
하지만 얼마 안 지나 장 원장 별세 소식을 접한 윤 대통령 내외가 크게 황망해 했다고 한다.
