[브레이크뉴스경기남부=안산 이현준기자] 안산시는 ‘부부로 옆 공영주차장 고도화 사업’의 준공식을 24일 개최했다.
원곡동 부부로 옆 공영유료주차장 3층 옥상 공간에서 진행된 이날 행사는 이민근 안산시장을 비롯해 내빈 및 지역 주민 등 150여 명이 참석해 주차장 고도화사업의 준공을 축하했다.
앞서 지난 2009년 다문화마을특구로 지정된 단원구 원곡동은 약 3만 3천여 명의내외국인이 거주하는 지역으로 유동 인구가 많아 주차난 민원이 상당한 곳이다.
이에 시는 원곡동 991-5번지에 소재한 기존 공영주차장에 총사업비 110억 원(특별교부금 7, 특별조정교부금 6, 시비 97)을 투입, 지난해 11월 착공에 들어간 뒤3층 4단(7,398㎡) 규모의 주차타워 조성 공사를 지난달 마쳤다.
이번 주차타워 조성이 완료됨에 따라 주차면이 기존 83면에서 300면으로 3.5배 이상증가하게 됐으며, 원곡동 일대 주차난 해소에 큰 도움이 될 것으로 기대되고 있다.주차타워는 안산도시공사와 협의를 거쳐 이날부터 무료 임시 운영에 들어가며11월 1일(금)부터 유료 운영으로 전환될 예정이다.

안산시는 이에 만족하지 않고 추진 중인 원곡동 스트리트몰 조성 사업(991번지 일원) 및 원곡동 공공건축물 부설주차장 고도화사업(원곡동 991-1번지)을 통해 주차 공간 59면 추가 확보에 나선다. 이 공사까지 마치면 기존 274면에 불과했던 이 일대 주차 공간이 총 550면으로 확대된다.
주차 공간 인프라가 충분하지 않으면 방문하는 것조차 부담되기 때문에 주차난을선제적으로 해결해야 한다는 게 이민근 시장의 의지다. 시는 앞으로 원곡동 일대 주차난 해소는 물론 다양한 콘텐츠가 있는 특화 거리 조성으로 다문화마을특구를전국적인 명소로 변모시켜 지역경제 활성화에 이바지한다는 방침이다.
이날 준공식에 참석한 한 시민은 “불법주차를 하면 안 되는 게 상식이지만 원곡동지역은 불법주차조차 하기 어려운 실정이었다”라며 “이번 주차장 준공으로 숨통이트이게 될 것 같다”라고 말했다.
이민근 안산시장은 “원곡동 일대는 주차난이 심각한 지역으로 주차 공간 확대는 주민들의 숙원이었다”라며 “이번 공영주차장조성으로 지역 주민과 다문화마을 특구 방문객들에게 더 나은 주차 환경을 제공할 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
