[브레이크뉴스경기남부=평택 이현준기자] 평택시는 슈퍼오닝쌀 고시히카리를 대체할 새로운 후보 품종을 선발하기 위한 현장 설명회를 개최했다.
고시히카리, 추청 등 외래품종에 대한 정부 보급 종자 공급 축소 및 중단에 대비해, 평택시슈퍼오닝쌀 재배면적에서 가장 많은 면적을 차지하는 고시히카리 품종을 대체할 수 있으면서 지역 기후와 토질에 적합한 조·중생종 품종 선발이 필요하다. 이에 평택시에서 경기도 농업기술원과 협력해 평택시 기후조건에 적합한 품종육성 및 선발을 위한 지역내 적응 시험을 지난 2023년부터 추진하고 있다.
지난 24일, 이번 설명회에서는 각 지역 농업 관계자와 대표 농업인 30여 명이 참여한 가운데 고시히카리 대비 신품종 벼인 연진(경기15호)과 수찬미(경기16호)의 키, 출수기, 이삭 상태, 병해충, 등숙률, 수량 등 품종 특성에 관해 설명하고 다양한 방식으로 참여자들의 의견을 청취해 향후 품종 선택에 반영하고자 생육 관찰과 평가표 작성 등의 시간도 가졌다.
시는 2026년까지 고시히카리 벼 대체 품종에 대한 현장 실증시험 및 식미 평가와 함께 소비자 기호도 조사 등을 지속적으로 추진하는 등 각 지역 농협과 협업해 점진적으로 우수한 대체 신품종을 찾고 확대 보급할 계획이다.
