김포시, 대한민국 공간복지대상 '장려상' 수상

[브레이크뉴스경기남부=김포 이현준기자] 김포시가 ‘2024 대한민국 공간복지대상’ 우수사례 공모 분야에서 장려상을 수상했다.

동아일보, 채널A가 주최한 이 상은 전국 기초 지방자치단체의 숨겨진 공간복지 구현 사례 발굴 및 전파를 목적으로 지난 8월부터 공모를 시행해 최근 우수사례를 선정해 발표했다.

김포시는 운양동 환승센터 공실률이 높은 빈 공간을 활용해 지역주민 편의시설인 평생학습관, 운전면허센터, 반려동물 공공진료센터 등을 조성하여 접근성이 우수한 역세권 주차장에 시민 편의 복합시설을 조성하여 시민의 생활 속 공간복지 향상을 위해서 기여한 성과를 인정받아 공간복지 우수사례로 꼽혀 수상의 영광을 차지했다.

운양동 환승센터는 345억원이 투입되어 지하2층~지상5층 2개동 주차대수 424대 대규모 주차장 조성 후 낮은 이용률로 예산 낭비의 도마 위에 올랐던 주차시설이다. 시에서는 빈 공간에 대한 시민편의 융복합시설 활용 방안을 마련하여 부서 협업을 통해서 기존 방치된 주차 공간을 활용한 모범사례로 인정받은 사례로 밝혀졌다.

김포시에 따르면 별도 평생학습관 신축 시 부지 매입, 공사비 포함 1천억원, 반려동물 공공진료센터 건립 시 100억원의 예산투입이 필요하며, 도로교통공단에서 운전면허센터 건립 시에도 상당한 공사 기간과 예산이 소요되나 기존 주차장을 활용하여 예산과 시간을 절약하고 역세권에 시설을 개소하여 주민 편익 증진에 크게 기여를 한 것으로 알려졌다.
