대통령실이 4일 의대 정원 증원에 대해 "정부가 과학적 근거를 따져 내놓은 2천명 증원이 오답이라면 1천500명 1천명이든 새답을 내 달라"고 의료계에 주문했다.
장상윤 대통령실 사회수석은 이날 오전 모 방송에 출연해 최근 의료계의 '2025년도 의대 증원을 철회않을 시 2026년도 감원을 보장하라'는 요구에 "그게 제시되면 원점서 테이블에 올려놓고 같이 계산해 보자"며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "앞서 정부가 제시한 의사 인력 수급 추계위원회도 전문가들이 과반수 위원을 의료계로부터 추천받아 아주 공정하게 정원을 계산해 볼 준비가 돼 있다는 메시지"라고 강조했다.
또 2025학년도 정원 문제 관련해선 "수시 입시가 진행 중이고 대입 절차가 상당 부분 들어가 있어 의제 논의와 별개로 이미 사실상 활시위를 떠났다"며 "입시 절차에서 벌어지는 혼란은 생각 이상으로 굉장히 큰 파장이 있어 언급·검토조차 사실 조심스럽다"고 기존 불가 입장을 거듭 확인했다.

더불어 의대생 교육 공백 대비책 관련해선 "학생들이 돌아오기만 하면 그동안 공백을 메울 수 있는 방안이 제시돼 있으나 그런데도 시간이 많이 흘러가고 있어 그다음 방안으로 비상 방안이 없을까 고민 중"이라며 "조만간 교육 당국에서 내용을 수렴 발표할 것"이라고 밝혔다.
