7일 울진군에 따르면 일본뇌염 환자는 관내 거주하는 50대 남성으로 9월 10일 몸살 증상을 시작으로 신경계 증상이 있어 9월 12일 의료기관을 방문하였으며 검사 결과 일본뇌염 양성으로 확인되어 치료중에 있다.
일본뇌염 매개 모기는 9~10월에 80%의 환자가 집중되고 50대 이상에서 주로 발생한다.
일본뇌염은 대부분 무증상이지만 감염된 모기에 물린 후 5~15일 이후에 무기력증, 발열 등의 증상이 나타난다. 드물게 뇌염으로 진행되면 고열, 발작, 목 경직, 경련, 마비 등이 나타나며 사망률은 20~30%이다.
울진군은 연무 및 분무 방역을 강화하였으며 채집기를 설치하여 모기 감시를 실시하여 채집된 모기는 경북 보건환경연구원으로 송부하여 감염 조사를 진행할 예정이다.
또한 일본뇌염 위험 지역을 알리기 위한 현수막 게첨 및 주민에게 직접 찾아가 교육을 실시하는 등 추가 환자 발생 방지를 위해 최선의 노력을 다하고 있다고 전했다.

손병복 울진군수는 “모기 매개 감염병을 예방하는 최선의 방법은 모기에 물리지 않는 것인 만큼 감염병 예방 수칙을 철저히 지켜주기 바란다” 라고 당부했다.
