[브레이크뉴스경기남부=수원 이현준기자] 수원시가 ‘공정무역도시’ 2차 재인증을 받았다.
(사)한국공정무역마을위원회로부터 인증 받은 기간은 10월 13일부터 2026년 10월 12일까지 이다.
공정무역마을 인증은 국제공정무역마을위원회의 한국 인증기관인 한국공정무역마을위원회가 공정무역을 모범적으로 실천하는 도시·대학·기업·기관 등을 대상으로 심사를 해 인증을 부여하는 제도다. 인증 기간은 2년이다.
2020년 10월 첫 인증을 받은 수원시는 ‘수원시 공정무역위원회’와 공정무역 인증 커뮤니티를 중심으로 지속해서 공정무역 캠페인과 교육 활동 등을 했고, 꾸준한 노력을 인정받아 2022년 10월 1차 재인증을 받았다.
공정무역도시로 재인증을 받으려면 ▲공정무역 조례 제정 ▲공정무역 제품 사용·판매 ▲공정무역 커뮤니티 인증 ▲공정무역 교육·캠페인 활동 ▲공정무역 위원회 운영 등 5가지 기준을 충족해야 한다. 2차 재인증 때는 1차 재인증 때보다 공정무역상품 판매처와 공정무역 인증 커뮤니티가 추가돼야 한다.
수원시는 2020년 3월 ‘공정무역지원 조례’를 제정하며 공정무역도시를 만들기 위한 제도적 기반을 마련했다. 2020년 4월에는 민·관 협력 기구인 ‘수원시공정무역위원회’를 구성했고, 공정무역상품 판매처 70개소를 확보했다. 판매처는 1차 재인증 때 89개소, 현재 95개소로 늘어났다.
1차 재인증 때 참살이협동조합·경기대학교 박물관·수원시청소년청년재단 등 3개소였던 공정무역 인증 커뮤니티는 현재 5개로 늘어났다. 수원도시재단 사회적경제지원센터, 천천고등학교 교육공동체 사회적협동조합이 추가로 지정됐다.
수원시는 꾸준히 공정무역 교육·캠페인을 열며 공정무역을 널리 알렸고, 지난해에는 ‘2023년 공정무역 포트나잇’ 개막도시로 선정돼 수원컨벤션센터에서 행사를 열었다. 경기도와 도내 시군이 함께 여는 공정무역 포트나잇은 다양한 사회 주체들이 2주 동안 공정무역을 알리고 기념하는 축제다.
‘공정무역’은 선진국과 개발도상국 간 불공정 무역구조로 인해 발생하는 부의 편중, 환경파괴, 노동력 착취, 인권침해 등 문제를 해결하기 위해 개발도상국 생산자에게 유리한 무역조건을 제공하는 무역 형태를 말한다.
생산자에게 정당한 대가를 지불하고, 소비자에게는 양질의 제품을 공급하는 ‘윤리적 소비’를 목표로 하는 전 세계적 시민 운동이다. 현재 전 세계 2000여 개 도시가 공정무역도시로 인증받고, 공정한 무역 활동 실천에 앞장서고 있다.
수원시 관계자는 “제2차 재인증으로 공정무역 마을 운동을 선도하는 공정무역도시로 자리매김할 것”이라며 “공정한 거래와 생산자와 소비자 간 존중·신뢰를 기반으로 모든 이의 존엄성과 노동 가치가 존중받는 사회 시스템을 만들어 가겠다”고 말했다.
한편 수원시는 ‘2024 경기 공정무역 포트나잇’ 개최를 기념해 14일 경기대학교 소성박물관 앞에서 ‘청년·청소년과 함께하는 공정무역 캠페인’을 펼쳤다.
수원시와 수원공정무역협의회가 주관하고, 수원시의 공정무역 커뮤니티인 경기대학교 소성박물관, 천천고등학교 교육공동체 사회적협동조합 등이 참여한 이날 캠페인은 경기대학교 학생과 시민을 대상으로 공정무역 과일 등 공정무역 제품을 나눠주며 공정무역을 홍보하는 방식으로 진행됐다.
