[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산의 출생아 수가 전국 상위권 증가율을 기록하며 저출산 흐름에 변화 조짐을 보이고 있다.
22일 국가데이터처의 2026년 2월 인구동향에 따르면 부산의 출생아 수는 1318명으로 전년 동월 대비 15퍼센트 증가했다. 이는 대전 서울 인천 광주 충북에 이어 전국에서 여섯 번째로 높은 증가율이다.
전국적으로도 출생아 수는 증가 흐름을 이어가고 있다. 올해 2월 출생아 수는 2만2898명으로 3년 연속 증가했으며 2024년 12월 1만명대로 떨어진 이후 다시 2만명대를 유지하고 있다.
올해 2월의 출생아 수를 17개 시·도별로 살펴보면, 부산의 출생아 수는 1,318명으로 ▲경기(6,775명), ▲서울(4,258명), ▲인천(1,527명) 다음으로 높은 수치이다. 전년 동월 대비 증가율로 살펴보면, 부산의 2월 출생아 수 증가율은 15.0%로 ▲대전(20.6%), ▲서울(19.2%), ▲인천(17.4%), ▲광주(17.0%), ▲충북(16.4%) 다음으로 높은 증가율을 보였다
부산은 절대 규모에서도 상위권을 기록했다. 시도별 출생아 수 기준으로 경기 서울 인천에 이어 네 번째로 많은 수준이다.
월별 흐름에서도 뚜렷한 반등세가 나타난다. 부산의 출생아 수는 2024년 9월 이후 증가세를 지속하고 있으며 지난해 5월과 11월을 제외하면 전년 동월 대비 꾸준한 증가를 보였다.
이종환 부산시의회 의원은 이러한 변화의 배경으로 부산시의 저출산 대응 정책을 꼽았다. 부산형 육아정책 브랜드 당신처럼 애지중지 시행과 함께 365열린어린이집 운영 시간제 보육 확대 등 돌봄 공백 해소 정책이 추진됐고 어린이집 필요경비 지원 산후조리비 지원 다자녀 신혼부부 공공임대주택 지원 등도 병행됐다.
이 의원은 "부산이 아이 낳고 키우기 좋은 도시로 자리매김할 수 있도록 저출산 대응 정책을 더욱 확대해야 한다며 시의회도 제도적 지원에 적극 나서겠다"고 밝혔다.

Busan’s number of births rose at one of the fastest rates nationwide, suggesting a potential shift in the low birthrate trend.
According to February 2026 population data released by the National Data Office on April 22, Busan recorded 1,318 births, up 15 percent from a year earlier. This marks the sixth-highest growth rate among major cities and provinces, following Daejeon, Seoul, Incheon, Gwangju and North Chungcheong.
Nationwide, births also continued an upward trend. The total number of births in February reached 22,898, marking a third consecutive year of increase. The figure has remained in the 20,000 range since rebounding from a drop below 20,000 in December 2024.
Among the 17 cities and provinces, Busan recorded 1,318 births in February, ranking fourth after Gyeonggi with 6,775, Seoul with 4,258 and Incheon with 1,527.
In terms of year-on-year growth, Busan’s number of births rose 15.0 percent, the sixth-highest increase nationwide, following Daejeon at 20.6 percent, Seoul at 19.2 percent, Incheon at 17.4 percent, Gwangju at 17.0 percent and North Chungcheong at 16.4 percent.
In terms of absolute numbers, Busan ranked fourth after Gyeonggi, Seoul and Incheon.
Monthly data shows a sustained recovery. Since September 2024, Busan has recorded year-on-year increases in births, except for May and November of last year.
Rep. Lee Jong-hwan of the Busan Metropolitan Council attributed the trend to the city’s pro-natalist policies. These include the “Cherishing Every Child” childcare initiative, expansion of 24-hour and part-time childcare services, financial support for daycare expenses, postpartum care subsidies and rental assistance for multi-child newlywed households.
Lee said Busan should further expand its policies to sustain the momentum, adding that the city council will continue to support efforts to make Busan a more family-friendly city.
