윤석열 대통령이 14일 신임 주 중국 대사에 김대기 전 대통령 비서실장을 내정했다. 김 내정자는 지난 2022년 8월 윤석열 정부 초대 주중대사로 취임했던 정재호 현 대사 후임이다.
정진석 대통령 비서실장은 이날 오후 용산 대통령실 브리핑에서 이 같은 인선 결과를 전했다.
정 실장은 "기획예산처 예산총괄심의관·재정운영실장·통계청장·이명박 정부 대통령실 경제수석·정책실장을 거쳐 하는 등 폭넓은 국정 개혁을 맡은 정통 경제관료 출신"이라고 인선 배경을 전했다.
그러면서 "오랜 기간 경제부처에서 근무하며 한·중 자유무역협정(FTA)과 한·중 무역갈등 해소 등 중국과의 경제협력 사업을 추진하는 정책 경험이 풍부하다"며 "평소 경제 문제 중심으로 한·중 관계에 깊은 관심을 갖고 중국 사회·역사·문화에 천착해 왔을 뿐 아닌 수준급 중국어 구사력도 갖췄다"고 전했다.
또 "양국 간 전략적 협력 동반자 관계를 지속 발전시키는 건 물론 격변하는 동북아 질서에서 한국 위상에 걸맞은 외교 성과를 거둘 것으로 기대한다"며 "오늘 중국 정부에 김 내정자에 대한 아그레망(주재국 승인)을 신청할 예정이고, 아그레망이 부여되는 대로 임명 계획"이라고 덧붙였다.
김 내정자는 경기고·서울대 경제학과를 졸업 후 행정고시에 합격해 지난 노무현 정부 때 청와대 경제정책비서관·기획예산처 재정운용실장을 지냈고, 이명박 정부에선 통계청장·문화체육관광부 2차관·경제수석·정책실장 등을 역임한 '경제통'으로 꼽힌다. 김 내정자는 지난해 12월 대통령실 쇄신 기조 강화 차원에서 비서실장직에서 물러났다.
