HD현대오씨아이가 한국타이어에 재활용 타이어 원료를 공급한다.
HD현대오씨아이(대표이사 조남수)는 순환 카본 블랙을 한국타이어앤테크놀로지㈜(이하 한국타이어)에 처음으로 공급하며 폐타이어 순환경제 시장에 본격 진출한다고 10월 29일 밝혔다.
HD현대오일뱅크의 석유화학 계열사인 HD현대오씨아이는 타이어의 주요 원료인 카본 블랙을 생산하고 있다. 이번에 한국타이어에 공급한 카본 블랙은 폐타이어를 재활용해 만든 자원 순환 제품이다. HD현대오일뱅크가 폐타이어를 열분해한 원료를 활용, 슬러리 오일을 생산하고 HD현대오씨아이는 이 순환 오일로 순환 카본 블랙을 만든다.
HD현대오씨아이에 따르면 지난 4월 해당 카본 블랙의 ISCC PLUS 인증도 획득했다. ISCC PLUS 인증은 친환경성을 입증하는 국제 인증 제도로 원료로부터 공정, 최종 제품까지 엄격한 심사를 거쳐야 한다는 설명.
HD현대오씨아이 관계자는 “향후 유럽을 중심으로 지속가능한 타이어의 글로벌 수요가 점차 커질 것으로 예상되는 만큼, 시장의 성장에 선제적으로 대응하여 공급을 확대할 수 있도록 노력할 것”이라고 밝혔다.
한편 HD현대오일뱅크는 석유화학 계열사인 HD현대오씨아이, HD현대케미칼과 함께 지난해 11월 한국타이어와 ‘폐타이어 순환 경제 컨소시엄’에 참여했다. 향후 한국타이어와 손잡고 순환 합성고무 등 타이어 생태계의 순환 경제 구축을 위해 협력을 확대해 나갈 예정이다.

HD Hyundai OCI will supply recycled tire raw materials to Hankook Tire.
HD Hyundai OCI (CEO Cho Nam-soo) announced on October 29 that it is entering the circular economy market for waste tires by supplying recycled carbon black to Hankook Tire & Technology (Hankook Tire) for the first time.
HD Hyundai OCI, a petrochemical affiliate of HD Hyundai Oil Bank, produces carbon black, a key raw material for tires. The carbon black supplied to Hankook Tire is a recycled product made from waste tires. HD Hyundai Oil Bank produces slurry oil from the pyrolysis of waste tires, and HD Hyundai OCI uses the recycled oil to make recycled carbon black.
According to HD Hyundai OCI, the carbon black was certified as ISCC PLUS in April. ISCC PLUS certification is an international certification system that proves eco-friendliness and requires strict audits from raw materials to processes to final products.
“As global demand for sustainable tires is expected to grow in the future, especially in Europe, we will strive to expand our supply in response to market growth,” said an official from HD Hyundai OCI.
Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Oil Bank, along with its petrochemical affiliates HD Hyundai OCI and HD Hyundai Chemical, joined the 'Waste Tire Circular Economy Consortium' with Hankook Tire in November last year. In the future, the company plans to expand its cooperation with Hankook Tire to build a circular economy in the tire ecosystem, including recycled synthetic rubber.
