윤석열 대통령이 8일 "북한이 핵 공격에 나선다면 한·미 핵 기반 안보동맹에 기반해 즉각적 핵 타격이 이뤄질 것"이라고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 공개된 미 시사주간지 '뉴스위크(Newsweek)' 최신호(11월 15일자) 인터뷰에서 "북한 김정은이 한국에 대한 핵 공격 감행을 결정한다면 매우 비이성적 행동"이라며 이같이 말했다. 해당 인터뷰는 지난 10월 16일 용산 대통령실 집무실에서 70여분 간 진행됐다.
그러면서 '북한 러시아 파병' 관련해선 "북한 파병에 대한 반대급부로 러시아가 북에 민감한 고급 군사 기술을 제공할 수 있다"며 "북이 우크라이나 전쟁서 습득한 현대전 경험을 100만명 이상 북한군에 적용한다면 이는 대한민국 안보에 커다란 위협이 될 것"이라고 지적했다.
또 "위협 수위 추이에 맞춰 상응하는 단계적 대응을 취해 나갈 것"이라며 "북한군 참전으로 우크라이나 전장이 격화된다면 우크라이나 방어에 도움되는 조치도 우선 검토할 수 있다"고 밝혔다.
부인 김건희 여사 문제에 대해선 "전 세계서 영부인을 엄격한 잣대로 붙잡고 있는 나라는 아마 한국뿐만이 아닐 것"이라면서도 "동시에 야당의 지나친 정치화 시도로 제 아내를 둘러싼 논란이 부풀려진 것도 사실이며 야당이 특검 임명을 추진하는 건 정치적 공세에 불과하고 유감스런 일로 특별검사는 검찰 부정행위·공정성 위반에 대한 신빙성 있는 주장이 있을 때 임명되는데 이번 경우는 그렇지 않다"고 했다.
임기 후반기 목표 관련해선 "재임 중 우리나라 GDP 성장률을 몇 퍼센트로 높이느냐가 중요한 게 아닌 제가 퇴임한 이후 다음 정권 그다음 정권서 우리 성장을 계속 추동할 수 있는 잠재 성장동력을 얼마나 만들어 내는 거냐가 제 재임 중 꼭 해야 할 일"이라며 "남은 임기 2년 반이면 100% 완성은 못 하지만 지금도 상당히 어느 정도 성과를 거뒀고 남은 임기는 퍼펙트(완벽)하진 않아도 이런 틀 만들어 다음 정권서 마무리를 다 지을 수 있게끔 할 수 있다 자부한다"고 했다.
이어 4대 개혁(의료·연금·노동·교육)에 대해 "4대 개혁은 지금 안 하면 할 수 없는 마지막 단계에 와 있다"며 "이젠 더 이상 미룰 수 없는 과제"라고 강조했다.
더불어 "많은 정권이 선거서 불리하게 작용할 우려가 있고 표를 잃을 가능성이 크다 봤기 때문에 하지 못했다"며 "임기 내 다 완성 못하더라도 단단한 틀을 만들어 다음 정권서 마무리 지을 수 있게끔 할 수 있다"고 말했다.
윤 대통령은 '저출생·젠더갈등' 문제 관련 해법에 대해선 "결혼하고 자녀를 출산한다 해서 직장에서 승진·경력에 지장받지 않도록 하는 분위기를 만들어 내야 두 문제를 동시에 풀어갈 수 있다"고 했다.
또 '자유민주주의에 대한 신념' 관련해선 "역사를 돌이켜 볼 때 자유민주주의 진영 명분은 누구를 침략하려는 게 아니었다"며 "자유민주주의 진영이 승리할 것이란 굳건한 믿음을 갖고 있고 이는 종교적 신념과도 같다"고 했다.
