대통령실이 10일 "정부는 업계와 협의해 조선업 포함 미국 관심사·기업 수요를 반영한 협력 기회를 다양한 산업에서 발굴해나갈 계획"이라고 밝혔다.
성태윤 대통령실 정책실장은 이날 용산 대통령실에서 윤석열 대통령 주재로 열린 대외 여건 변화에 따른 경제·안보 점검회의 직후 브리핑에서 "지난 7일 윤 대통령·트럼프 당선인 간 통화에서 트럼프 당선인 조선업 분야서 한국과의 협력 필요성을 언급한 건 주목할만한 점"이라며 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 "미국은 군함 건조 역량 강화 포함 조선업 전반 생산성 개선에 관심 많다"며 "한국은 최고 수준 선박 건조역량을 갖고 있어 상호 윈윈할 수 있는 협력 분야가 많을 걸로 생각된다"고 했다.
실제 한국 조선 기업들 미국 투자를 비롯 미 해군 군수지원함 수리정비 사업 수주 등 같은 협력사례가 빠르게 늘고 있다는 설명이다.
또 "위기·기회요인 분석 과정서 우리 기업들이 대규모 투자를 통해 미 제조업 붐·일자리 창출에 크게 기여하고 있다는 점은 미 신행정부·의회도 잘 알고 있다"며 우리 기업들 미국 내 경영활동에 부정적 영향은 최소화될 수 있다"고 했다.
더불어 "앞으로 미 신행정부 정책 방향에 따라 불확실성·도전과제가 있는 게 사실이나 대응 여하에 따라 기회 요인도 많을 수 있다"며 "정부는 모든 가능성을 염두에 두고 철저하고 차분하게 영향을 분석해 우리 기업들과 함께 대비해나갈 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
