브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 미국이 우크라이나 수도 키이우에 위치한 대사관을 폐쇄한지 하루만에 정상화시켰다.
미국은 러시아의 대규모 공습 첩보가 있다며 우크라이나 주재 대사관을 임시 폐쇄했으나, 이는 러시아가 혼란을 주기 위해 광범위하게 퍼뜨린 가짜 정보인 것으로 전해졌다.
미국 CNN 보도에 따르면 매슈 밀러 미 국무부 대변인은 20일(현지시각) 정례브리핑을 통해 "오늘 출근하지 않은 우크라이나 주재 대사관 직원들이 내일은 출근할 것으로 예상한다"고 밝혔다.
미국은 전날 키이우에 대규모의 공습이 있을 것이라는 구체적인 정보를 입수했다면서 대사관을 폐쇄 조치하고 직원들의 대피를 지시했다. 통상 미국이 대사관을 철수하는 것은 중대한 위협이 임박했다는 신호로 읽히기 때문에 이탈리아, 스페인, 그리스 등도 줄이어 대사관을 폐쇄했다.
밀러 대변인은 대사관 폐쇄 조치에 대해 "광범위한 요인에 근거해 그같은 결정을 내렸다"면서 "우리는 직원들의 안전과 안보를 매우 중요하게 생각하며 이것은 오늘 우리의 자세를 바꿨던 이유"라고 설명했다.
다만 밀러 대변인은 구체적인 공격 방법에 대해선 알지 못했으나, 안전과 직원 보호를 매우 신중하게 생각하기 때문에 내려진 조치라고 부연했다.
한편, 우크라이나 국방정보국은 키이우를 향한 대규모 공습 내용은 러시아가 퍼뜨린 가짜 정보였다고 밝혔다.
러시아측에서 외교관들과 군인 등에게 가짜 공습내용을 무차별적으로 뿌린 것으로 파악했다.
볼로디미르 젤렌스키 우크라이나 대통령도 "오늘 일어난 정보 주입과 일부 패닉 메시지가 전송된 것은 모두 러시아를 도울 뿐"이라며 "모두들 스스로를 돌보고 우리 군을 도우며 다른 사람들이 그들의 이익을 위해 여러분의 감정을 이용하지 못하게 해야 한다"고 강조했다.
