홍성군은 대한장애인협회 소속 휠체어펜싱 국가대표팀 8명이 지난 25일부터 12월 13일까지 홍성군장애인스포츠센터에서 2028년 미국 LA패럴림픽 금메달 목표를 위한 강화훈련을 진행 중이라고 27일 밝혔다.
홍성군장애인스포츠센터는 36년만에 파리패럴림픽에서 은메달 수상한 권효경 선수가 훈련했던 장소로, 이번 전지훈련은 그 역사적 의미를 이어가는 동시에 LA패럴림픽 금메달 도전을 위한 초석이 될 것으로 전망된다.
특히, 패럴림픽 메달리스트 권효경 선수와 국가대표 김동훈 선수(B등급)를 비롯해 휠체어펜싱의 최정예 선수들이 참여하고 있어 더욱 의미가 크다.
