브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= 미국 중앙은행인 연방준비제도(Fed·연준)가 18일(현지시각) 기준금리를 0.25%p 인하했다. 지난 9월과 11월에 이은 세 차레 연속 인하다.
단, 내년에는 두 차례 정도만 내릴 것으로 전망하는 등 인하 속도를 늦출 것으로 예고했다.
연준은 연방공개시장위원회(FOMC) 정례 회의 뒤 기준금리를 종전 4.50~4.75%보다 0.25%p 낮은 4.25~4.50%로 조정한다고 밝혔다
이에 따라 한국(3.0%)과의 기준금리 차이는 상단 기준으로 종전 1.75%p에서 1.50%p 좁혀졌다.
연준은 성명에서 “올해 초부터 노동 시장 상황은 전반적으로 완화됐고 실업률은 상승했어도 여전히 낮다”면서 “인플레이션은 위원회의 목표치인 2%를 향한 진전을 이뤘으나 여전히 다소 높은 수준이다”이고 평가했다.
한편, 연준은 경제전망예측을 통해 내년 말 기준 금리(중간값)를 기존 9월 전망치(3.4%)보다 0.5%p 높은 3.9%로 제시했다. 3.4%였으면 0.25%씩 4회 인하가 예상됐지만, 변경된 전망치로 인해 절반인 2회 인하가 될 것으로 보인다.
