박지원 의원(더불어민주당)은 1월16일 온라인 저널인 페이스북 계정에 게재한 글에서 “미 국방장관 지명자가 북한을 핵보유국으로 인정?”이라는, 내용을 공론화했다.

이어 “그러나 올 것이 왔다. 미 국방장관 지명자가 북한을 핵보유국으로 인정? 미 대선 때 공화 민주 양당 공히 정강정책에서 비핵화가 사라졌을 때 윤석열 정부는 먼 산 쳐다만 보고있었다.”면서 “저는 이는 핵 보유국을 인정하고 핵확산 금지 정책으로 전환한다고 지적했고 이것이 현실화되고 있다. 저는 이미 비핵화 3단계론을 제안했다. 1단계, 핵보유국 인정. 2단계, 북은 NPT가입, IAEA 사찰로 동결 및 확산금지. 3단계, 미는 북의 체제보장 경제동결 해제 후 북미수교로 완전한 비핵화. 검토할 가치가 있지 않는가.”라고 피력했다.
