한설 예비역 장군(육군 소장)은 1월24일 인터넷 저널인 페이스 북에 “불임정당이 된 더불어민주당과 이재명이 살아남으려면, 죽어야 산다” 제목의 글을 게재했다.
한설 예비역 장군은 이 글에서 정치적으로 미묘한 입장에 대해 언급했다. “우선 헌법재판소에서 윤석열 대통령 탄핵 인용이 되지 않은 가능성이 조금씩 높아가고 있는 것 같다”고 전망한 것.
한설 예비역 장군은 “최근 들어 더불어민주당 내에서 비명(비 이재명계)이라고 하는 인물들이 이재명 불가론을 주장하고 나섰다. 임종석이 나서더니 이제는 김부겸도 거들고 나섰다. 정치인의 운명이란 대중의 인기에 좌우된다. 철통같던 이재명과 그 주변의 옹위세력들로 대중의 지지율 저하에는 방법이 없는 법”이라고 분석하면 “지금 더불어민주당은 위기다. 우선 헌법재판소에서 윤석열 탄핵 인용이 되지 않은 가능성이 조금씩 높아가고 있는 것 같다. 윤석열이 탄핵되지 않을 가능성이 높아진다는 것은 향후 한국정치에 심각한 문제를 초래할 것이다. 그 점에 대해서는 추가적으로 언급할 필요가 없다고 생각한다. 최악의 상황이 초래될 것이다. 어떤 일이 있더라도 윤석열 탄핵이 인용되어야 한다”고 주장했다.
이어 “현재 더불어민주당이 가장 우려해야 할 것은 윤석열이 탄핵된다고 하더라도 조기대선에서 국민의힘을 이길 가능성이 줄어들고 있다는 것이다. 사법부의 동향을 보면 이재명은 조기대선이 치루어지더라도 대선에 나오기 어려울 것 같다. 설사 나오더라도 대선에서 승리하기 어렵다. 이미 대중의 마음은 이재명에게서 돌아섰다. 이재명이 대선후보로 나오면 무난하게 패배할 것”이라고 예단(豫斷)하고 “더불어민주당에게 있어서 가장 심각한 문제는 이재명이 정치전선에서 물러나지 않으면 국민의힘을 이길 수 있는 경쟁력있는 대통령 후보가 나올 수 없다는 것이다. 현재 더불어민주당에서는 이재명의 대안이 될 수 있는 대선후보가 사실상 없는 것이나 마찬가지다. 임종석이나 김부겸은 이재명 체제의 출현에 직접적인 책임이 있는 문재인 정권의 당사자다. 이낙연이 혹시나 해서 틈을 노리고 있는 것으로 보이지만 그도 역시 문재인 정권의 실정에 직접적인 책임이 있는 사람이다. 경기지사 김동연은 더불어민주당인지 국민의힘인지 그 색깔을 구분하기 어려운 사람이다. 아무 색깔도 없는 김동연 같은 사람이 국민의힘 후보를 이길 수는 없다.”고 내다봤다.
한설 예비역 장군은 “이재명은 자신이 버티다가 국민의힘이 정권을 장악하면 아주 오랫동안 감방에서 살아야 한다는 사실을 잘 생각해야 한다. 그나마 더불어민주당에서 권력을 가져와야 나중에 사면이라도 받을 수 있다는 현실적인 이해관계를 잘 고려해야 할 것이다. 이재명이 정말 고민해야 할 것은 조기대선이 이루어졌을 때 국민의힘을 이길 수 있는 사람을 빨리 찾아보는 것이 아닌가 한다.”고 조심스럽게 견해를 피력하면서 “그동안 이재명과 더불어민주당에게 편치 않은 이야기를 많이 했다. 전망이란 것들이 다 그렇듯이 필자의 예측이 세부적인 내용까지 모두 들어맞지는 않았다. 그러나 전체적인 대강의 방향은 거의 필자의 예상대로 전개되었던 것 같다. 필자의 전망이 비교적 들어맞았던 것은 진영의 어느 한편에 매몰되지 않으려고 했기 때문일 것이다. 똑똑해서가 아니라 균형을 잘 잡았기 때문이라는 말”이라고 덧붙였다.
