한설 예비역 장군(육군 소장)은 1월31일 인터넷 저널인 페이스 북에 “새로운 시대에는 새로운 정신이 권력을 잡아야 새로운 미래가 가능하다” 제목의 글을 게재했다.
이 글에서 “국제정치 환경이 바야흐로 새롭게 정리되고 있다. 1세기 이상 전 세계의 패권을 장악했던 미국이 흔들리고 있다. 그 틈을 타서 새로운 국제정치 질서가 형성되기 위해 몸부림치고 있다. 새로운 국제정치 질서의 형성에 핵심적인 역할을 하는 국가가 러시아와 중국이라는 것은 부정하기 어렵다”고 저제하고 “러시아가 국제정치의 군사안보적 측면에서 주도적인 역할을 한다면, 중국은 경제적인 측면에서 핵심적인 역할을 하게 될 것”이라고 전망했다.
한설 예비역 장군은 “윤석열의 탄핵이 인용되지 않을 가능성이 매우 높다고 생각한다. 그렇게 판단하는 가장 큰 이유 중의 하나는 트럼프를 중심으로 하는 미국 정가의 움직임 때문이다. 트럼프는 윤석열이 탄핵되지 않으면 만나겠다고 했다. 이 말은 한국의 헌재에 윤석열을 탄핵시키지 말라는 소리로 들린다.”면서 “최근 헌재의 재판관 중에서 일부 재판관에 대해 보수언론의 집요한 공격을 보면서 헌재에 대한 상당한 정치적 압박이 본격적으로 가동되고 있는 것 아닌가 하는 의구심을 지울 수 없다. 사실 대통령에 대한 탄핵을 헌재에서 다시 심판하는 것은 옳지 않다고 생각한다. 국회에서 2/3의 찬성으로 탄핵이 의결되면 곧바로 탄핵되어야 한다고 생각한다. 어차피 탄핵이란 정치적 결정이다. 그런 정치적 결정을 법률적으로 심판한다는 것은 옳지 않다고 생각한다. 헌재는 법률의 위헌여부만 심판하면 된다고 생각한다. 다음에 개헌을 할 일이 있으면, 헌재의 역할에 대한 분명한 재검토가 있어야 할 것”이라고 지적했다.

이어 한설 예비역 장군은 “새로운 시대가 오고 있다. 지금 우리가 겪고 있는 지금의 어려움은 새로운 시대를 향해 나가기 위한 산통인지도 모른다.”고 강조하고 “새로운 사람은 젊은 사람을 의미하는 것이 아니다. 정신이 젊어야 하고 올바라야 한다. 젊었지만 타락한 정신을 가진 자도 셀 수 없이 많다. 육체적인 나이보다는 정신적으로 새로운 사람이 필요한 시대”라고 덧붙였다.
