한중교류촉진위원회는 2월3일 보도자료에서 “2025년 APEC 정상회의 성공 기원 및 1억명 관광 활성화를 위한 한중교류촉진위원회(위원장 이창호)와 글로벌관광객 1억명시대범국민추진위원회(대표 이참, 선종복) 양해각서를 지난 3일에 체결했다”고 알렸다.

이번 협약을 통해 두 기관은 △한·중 관광객 교류 활성화 △관광산업 발전을 위한 정책 연구 및 제안 △한·중 문화 교류 및 친선 행사 추진 △관광 인프라 및 관광객 편의 증진 △글로벌 관광객 1억 명 시대 실현을 위한 협력 △관광산업 관계자 및 전문가 네트워크 구축을 통한 지속적인 협력 체계 마련 등에 힘을 모으기로 했다.
대한민국 1호 귀화 외국인으로 관광공사 사장을 역임한 글로벌 관광객 1억명 시대 범국민추진위원회 이참 대표는 “세계에서 1억 명 글로벌 관광객을 유치하고 있는 나라는 프랑스인데 과연, 한국도 글로벌 관광객 1억 명을 유치할 수 있다”고 피력했다.
이어 글로벌 관광객 1억명 시대 범국민추진위원회 선종복 상임대표는 “오는 2025년 APEC 정상회의 계기로 관광 활성화 및 대한민국 방문의 해, 성공 개최를 위한 다각적인 협의와 다양한 의견을 수렴했다.”고 강조했다.
또한 ‘새 시대를 이끄는 시진핑(중국 국가주석)과 한중관계’ 저자 겸 한중교류촉진위원회 이창호 위원장은 “양 기관이 힘을 모아 한국의 국제적 위상을 높이고, 관광 산업의 성장을 촉진하는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다”면서 “앞으로의 지속 가능한 발전이 기대되는 만큼, 많은 관심과 정부 지원이 필요하다.”고 강조했다.
