필자는 지난 2월3일 류영모 선생에 관한 글을 본지(브레이크뉴스)에 게재(제목=노평구 발행인을 통해 류영모 선생의 면면을 알게 됐는데...) 했었다. "노평구 발행인을 통해 류영모 선생의 면면을 알게 됐는데..."라는 제목의 글에서 “필자는 강남대학 신학과(기독교 문학전공)를 졸업했다. 졸업논문으로 한국의 무교회주의를 다뤘다. 이때, 김교신-류영모의 제자였던, 노평구 발행인을 자주 만나게 됐다. '씨알의 소리' 함석헌(1901~1989)도 류영모(多夕-1890~1981-柳永模)의 제자였다.)의 제자로 분류된다.”고 썼다. “류영모 선생(필자와 정신적인 맥이 닿아 있는 분), 그분의 어록들을 살피면, 간담이 서늘해질 정도로, 매섭고-날카로운 게 많다”고, 기술했다.
'씨알의 소리' 함석헌(1901~1989)의 스승이었던 류영모(多夕-1890~1981-柳永模)는 공산주의에 대해 비판적이었다. 다석 류영모 어록(자료 출처/다석사상연구회)에 따르면, 류영모의 어록에는 공산주의를 비판하는 내용이 다수 있다. 다석(多夕) 류영모는 공산주의를 철저히 반대했던 기독교 사상가였다. 류영모가 생존했을 당시인 1950년대, 그가 어록(語錄)에서 언급한, 반(反) 공산주의(共産主義) 시각을 소개한다.
류영모는 공산주의라는 존재를 하대(下待)했다. 그는 “마르크스와 예수라는 책이 있다고 한다. 여기 무엇이 공통되는 것이 있을 것이다. 예수의 이름을 부르는 사람들이 하느님께서 일러 주신 말씀 그대로 하면 공산주의가 어디 있겠는가? 결코 공산주의가 나올 수 없을 것이다. 불교사상이 원형대로 빈틈없이 발달되었다면 어디 동양에 공산주의 같은 사상이 얼씬을 하겠는가? 성경이면 성경의 이치만 살리는 것이 아니라 이론을 세워서 좀 낫게 한다는 것이 틈이 생겨서 공산주의 같은 사상이 들어오게 된 것이다. 성경에도 같이 먹자는, 공평하게 하자는, 가난한 자 도와 주라는 말이 있다. 이치는 알지만 이론을 만들지 못한 것이다. 자꾸 나아가게 해야 할 것이 아닌가? 좀 낫게 할 것을 낫게 하지 못했으니까, 이런 소리 저런 소리가 나오게 되는 것이다.(1956)”라고, 적시(摘示) 했다.
류영모는 공산주의를 미신(迷信) 취급 했다. 그의 어록 중에는 “힘과 빵을 해결하는 것이 종교라 해서 미신(迷信)이 나오는 줄 안다. 공산주의 천하가 되면 먹고사는 데 많은 발전이 된다고 한다. 옛날 제왕(帝王)때에 잘 입고 잘 먹게 된다고 한 것이다. 잘 입고 잘 산다는 것은 그것이 미신이 아니고 무엇이겠는가? 사람이 어리석어서 공산주의 같은 데 빠지는 것이다. 열대지방에는 먹는 것이 풍부하고 더워서 입을 걱정은 하지 않는다. 그런데 이 지방 사람은 미련하기가 자기 나이를 모른다고 한다. 모든 것이 풍족하다는 것이 좋지 못하다. 요즘은 백인들이 들어가서 착취하여 좀 부족한 듯하니까 전보다는 퍽 차이가 있다고 한다. 빵 문제가 해결되면 이 지경을 당한다. 빵 이상의 것이 우리에게는 있는 것이다. 인생에는 반드시 뜻이 있다. 진리가 그것이고 하느님이 그것이다.(1956)”는 내용이 있다. 이 부분에서는 “사람이 어리석어서 공산주의 같은 데 빠지는 것”이라고, 폄하(貶下)했다.
류영모는 “공산주의의 미래는 없다”고 단언했다. 그 이유에 대해 “거짓말 잘하고 사람 죽이기를 좋아하는 공산주의는 머지않아 반드시 미끄러질 것”이라고 내다봤다. 류영모는 이 어록에서 “거짓말 잘하고 사람 죽이기를 좋아하는 공산주의는 머지않아 반드시 미끄러질 것이다. 밤과 낮이 있듯이 악이 있으면 선이 있다. 악이 찌그러질 때가 있고 선이 찌그러질 때가 있다“고 지적했다.
북한을 지배했던 김일성 주석에 대해서도 비판적이었다. 아래 어록에는 류영모의 반(反) 김일성 주의가 배어 있음이 노출된다.
“유물사상에 철저하다는 공산국가에서도 레닌이라는 작자의 송장을 늘 곱게 단장시키고 썩지 않게 유리관에 넣어 두었다. 사람은 무얼 좀 오래두고 싶고 보존하고 싶어서 이런 생각을 한 모양이다. 그이는 그만 한 지위에 그만한 인격이니 그리하는 것이 마땅하다고 국민 자신이 생각하는지 모르나 어리석은 국민이라 아니할 수 없다. 이 나라에서도 자신의 주검을 이러한 유리관에 곱게 두는 것을 바리는 사람이나 그것이 당연하다고 보는 사람이 아주 없다고는 할 수 없을 것이다. 그런 생각이 들면 저 김일성이를 비롯한 공산국가에서 하는 짓과 다른 것이 무엇이겠는가? 공산국가에서는 죽어서 송장이 유리관 속에 들어가고 싶어서 못된 짓을 그 같이 많이 하는지 모르겠다. 정신이 사람인데 사람이 그 모양으로 꿈만 꾸고 있으니 잘 될 것이 없다.(1957)”
공산주의를 유토피아라고 주장해온 이들에 대해서도 뜨끔하게 비판(批判)했다. 공산유토피아 때문에 수많은 사람이 죽었음을 상기(想起)시켰다. 류영모는 “사람들이 툭하면 유토피아(理想世界)를 말하는데 이상세계가 온다면 어떻단 말인가? 유토피아도 상대세계일 것이고 나고 죽는 세계일 것이다. 우주 자체가 한숨인데 유토피아인들 우는 소리가 없겠는가? 한숨은 이상세계에서도 나온다. 그놈의 이상세계가 어떠한지 그 세상 가지고 사람을 심판할 만한 것이 되겠는가? 그놈의 공산유토피아 때문에 그렇게 수많은 사람을 죽여도 된단 말인가?(1957)”라고, 꼬집었다.

기독교인으로서, 반듯한 정치인의 출현을 고대했다. 그는 “교회에서도 예수의 이름을 팔아서 호강하겠다는 것이 교회사 대부분을 장식한다면 어떻게 되겠는가? 반듯하지 못한 사람이 질그릇을 만들면 만들어진 그릇도 반듯하지가 못하다. 그러니 나라의 정치도 반듯한 사람이 해야 모든 것이 반듯해지는 법이다. 그런데 그렇지 못하다. 수신제가(修身齋家)를 하지 못하는 사람이 나라의 정치를 반듯하게 할 리 없다. 마음이 반듯하지 못하면 그 사람은 영원(하느님)과 인연이 끊어져 미혹하게 된다.(1957)”라는 어록에, 그의 정신이 스며있다.
