조지아의 수도 트빌리시, 어디를 가든 러시아와 푸틴을 욕하는 그레피티로 도배되고 있다. 러소포비아가 심각한 발트 3국은 그나마 양반이라 할 정도로 조지아의 러소포비아는 매우 심각한 상황이다. 러시아 욕하는 글, 푸틴을 욕하는 글은 도시 전체를 뒤덮고 있으며 심지어는 러시아어를 쓰면 맞아죽는 분위기로 가고 있다. 영어로 불합리성을 따지면 못 알아듣는 척, 눈감고 있고 답답해서 러시아어를 쓰면 "러시아놈 꺼져라" 그러고 있다.
아예 작정하고 외국인을 적대하는 것 같은데 전체 외국인 다 그러는건지 동양인한테만 그러는건지 알 수 없었다. 내가 묵고 있는 호스텔은 파키스탄 이민자 가정이 운영하고 있었는데 주인이 임란 칸 광팬이라, 임란 칸 사진을 자기 룸에 덕지덕지 붙여놓고 다닌다. 이번에 선거 승리를 말하면서 알라의 뜻이라며 내가 오기 전, 같은 파키스탄 이민자들을 초청해 축하 파티도 열었다고 한다. 비록 몸은 조국인 파키스탄을 떠나 있지만 그래도 조국에 대한 마음은 지우지 않는다.
우리 한국인도 다른 나라로 이민가더라도 내 조국인 한국이 잘 되길 바라고 살기 좋은 국가가 되길 바라면서 한국 정치 문제에 관심 갖는 것도 그 때문이다. 비록 이민은 왔지만 피는 못 속이는 것이다. 그런데 조지아놈들이 모든 외국인에게 그러는지는 알 수 없는데 아마도 동양인에게는 유독 그렇게 하는 이유가 있다고 한다. 한국인, 중국인, 일본인을 육안으로 구분하기 힘드니 가장 인구가 많은 중국인으로 오해 한다는 것이다. 조지아의 최대 주적이자 적국은 러시아다.
최근 러시아와 중국이 가까워지고 철저히 반서방주의로 나서게 되자 조지아인들은 러시아와 친한 중국도 미워하기 시작했다. 그리고 공공연하게 중국 또한 주적이라 말하는 조지아인들이 갑자기 많아지면서 동양인하면 모두 중국인으로 인식하게 된 것이다. 그러니 동양인이 영어로 말하면 영어할 줄 알면서도 Don't speaking English 하면서 눈 감고 모른척하고 있고 러시아어로 얘기하면 "러시아놈 꺼져라" 그러고 있는 것이다.
이른바 "키타이포비아 (러시아어로 키타이는 "중국"을 의미)"가 "러소포비아"만큼 높아지고 있는 것이다. 그렇다고 대놓고 러시아 욕하는 것처럼 하지는 않지만 이미 모든 동양인들은 "키타이포비아"에 함께 묻어가 의도적이며 보이지 않는 "차별"을 하고 있는 것이다. 내 국적이 한국인이라 말해도 소용없고 일본인이라 해도 소용없다. 조지아인들은 동양하면 모두 중국과 한 패거리라 생각하기 때문이다. 러소포비아만큼 무서운 것이 바로 "키타이포비아"다. lukybaby7@gmail.com
