브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 지난달 20일 취임 후 적극적인 관세 정책으로 전세계 무역 전쟁을 촉발시키고 있다. 핵심은 관세 장벽을 세운 뒤 미국에 투자하거나 자국 내 공장을 짓도록 유도한다는 계획이다.
18일(현지시간) AP통신 보도에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 오는 4월부터 수입산 자동차에 대한 관세를 약 25% 인상할 방침이라고 밝혔다.
트럼프 대통령은 이날 플로리다주 팜비치 마러라고 자택에서 행정명령 서명식을 개최한 후 자동차 관세율에 대한 질문에 "아마 4월2일에 발표할 예정이다. 25% 정도 될 것"이라고 답했다.
또한 반도체와 의약품 관세에 대한 질문에도 "25% 이상이 될 것이고 1년이 지나면 더 높아질 것이다"고 말했다.
트럼프 대통령은 다만 미국에 공장을 짓는 자동차 기업들에는 면세 혜택을 주겠다는 언급도 했다.
그는 "하지만 우리는 그들에게 시간을 주려한다"면서 "미국으로 들어오면서 이곳에 공장을 짓는 계획이 있다면 관세가 없다. 그들에게 기회를 주길 원한다"고 말했다.
한편, 미국이 자동차 관세를 실제로 인상할 경우 한국은 직격탄을 맞는다. 지난해 수출한 자동차는 약 278만대이며 이 중 미국 수출 물량은 143만대로 절반이 넘는다.
KB증권은 앞서 미국이 한국산 자동차에 10%의 관세를 부과한다면 현대차와 기아의 영업이익은 4조 3000억원 가량 감소할 것이라는 분석을 내놓기도 했다.
