세계 대전을 치렀던 20세기는 승패를 겨루는 치열한 '전쟁의 세기'라면, 21세기는 '문화전쟁의 시대'이다. 세계 각국- 특히 선진 국가들은 문화영토(領土) 늘리기에 국력을 집중하고 있다. 우리나라도 그 중의 한 국가라고 생각한다. K-컬쳐(문화)가 그것이다. 한국 문화의 영토(嶺土)확장을 위해 무엇을 할 건지? 고민해야할 때이다.
중국의 지도자 덩샤오핑은 1979년 미국을 방문했다. 그는 미국의 문화-기술발전의 모습을 보고, 매우 놀랐다. 귀국 후, 중국의 개혁-개방정책을 시동했다.

필자는 날이 갈수록 치열해지고 있는, 국제-문화전쟁에 참전, 치열한 전투를 벌이는 중이다. 국제 문화전쟁에 참전(參戰) 중인 참전 용사이다. 왜 그런 논리(論理)를 펴는가?
필자는 지난 19년째 서울누드화미술관을 설립할 요량으로 누드화를 매집(買集)해왔다. 서울시 동대문구 신설동 풍물시장을 드나들며 누드화를 모아왔다. 이제 2,500여점을 상회했다. 사라질지도 모를, 그림들을 매집, 소장하게 됐다.
나의 이런 일들을, 문화전쟁에 대입한다면, 나는 이 문화전쟁에 참전한 용사일 수 있다. 나의 위치는 한 사람 병(兵)인지, 하사관(下士官)인지, 위관(位官) 장교인지 모른다. 총소리를 내지 않는 특수병(特殊兵)이랄까? 다만 나는, 이 문화전쟁에 참전한, 참전용사라는 자부심을 가지고 있다.
