이번 선정은 동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스가 3주기 마지막 평가에서 학위과정과 어학연수과정 모두 인증을 받은 결과로, 인증기간은 2025년 3월부터 2026년 2월까지 1년간이다.
‘교육국제화역량 인증제’는 2011년부터 교육부가 주관하는 제도로, 우수 외국인 유학생 유치와 국내 학생들의 국제화 역량 강화를 목표로 한다.
인증을 받기 위한 평가는 ‘불법체류율’, ‘전략 및 선발’, ‘유학생 지원’, ‘유학생 관리 및 성과’ 등 다양한 영역에서 이루어진다. 이 제도를 통해 우수한 국제화 역량을 갖춘 대학들이 인증을 받으며, 인증대학에는 다양한 정책적 혜택이 제공된다.
이번 인증대학 선정으로 동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스는 학령인구 감소에 따른 새로운 교육수요군인 우수 외국인 유학생들을 유치하는 데에 중요한 전환점을 맞이하게 되었다. 또한, 정부 및 지자체와의 연계를 통한 다양한 국책사업 참여 기회를 확보하면서 지역대학의 위기 극복에 중요한 모멘텀을 얻었다.
동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스는 경상북도 외국인 유학생 3만 명 유치 정책을 선도하며 지난 1년간 400여 명의 신규 유학생을 유치, 불법체류율 0%를 달성한 우수 사례로 주목받고 있다. 특히, 2025 APEC KOREA와 연계한 유학생 사업에 선정되어, 대학이 지역 경제 활성화와 행사 성공을 위해 주도적인 역할을 할 예정이다.
