브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 기아가 미래 모빌리티 산업 생태계 조성을 위해 경기도, 화성특례시와 함께 손을 맞잡았다.
기아는 6일 오토랜드 화성에서 송호성 사장, 최준영 국내생산담당 사장, 김동연 경기도지사, 정명근 화성특례시장 등 주요 관계자들이 참석한 가운데, ‘PBV 기반 미래 모빌리티 산업 생태계 조성을 위한 업무협약(MOU)’을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이번 협약은 ‘차량 그 이상의 플랫폼(Platform Beyond Vehicle)’의 비전을 실현하고자 하는 기아와 PBV 활용을 통해 미래 모빌리티 혁신 도시로 거듭나고자 하는 경기도, 화성특례시의 뜻이 합쳐져 진행됐다.
이번 협약으로 기아는 세계 최초 PBV 전용 공장인 화성 이보 플랜트(EVO Plant) 건설을 계획대로 진행하고, 경기도와 화성특례시는 관련된 여러 인허가 및 인프라 개선 사항 등을 적극적으로 지원할 계획이다.
또한, 기아와 경기도, 화성특례시는 모빌리티 산업 활성화에 필요한 국가공모사업 및 관련 신사업 모델 발굴을 위해 적극 협력하고, 지역 내 교통 편의 증진을 위한 PBV 모빌리티 서비스 개발에도 함께 나선다.
구체적으로 기아는 PBV 기반의 WAV(휠체어용 차량, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle), DRT(수요 응답 교통, Demand Responsive Transport) 모델을 경기도와 화성특례시에 도입·운영하는 방안을 검토할 예정이다.
V2G(양방향 충방전, Vehicle–To–Grid) 충전 인프라 조성 등 지속가능한 에너지 환경 구축을 위한 다각적인 협력을 이어갈 계획이다.
기아는 이번 협약을 계기로 미래 모빌리티 경쟁력을 적극 확보해 나감으로써 향후 PBV 생태계를 성공적으로 구축할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
기아 송호성 사장은 “이번 전략적 협업이 맞춤형 PBV 모빌리티 솔루션을 개발하고 확대해 나갈 수 있는 기틀이 될 것”이라며 “기아의 혁신적인 기술력을 토대로 경기도와 화성특례시가 미래 모빌리티 산업 중심지로 거듭나는데 기여하겠다”고 말했다.
김동연 경기도지사는 “대한민국 경제와 미래 첨단 산업의 중심인 신뢰의 땅 경기도에서 기업의 새로운 도전이 차질 없이 진행될 수 있도록 적극적으로 지원하겠다”고 전했다.
한편, 기아는 지난달 2025 기아 EV데이에서 고객 관점에서 개발한 차량과 소프트웨어 솔루션이 통합된 ‘맞춤형 모빌리티 솔루션’ PBV의 비즈니스 전략을 공개한 바 있다.
기아의 PBV 비즈니스 전략은 △차량 상품성 △소프트웨어 솔루션 △제조 부문 등 크게 세 가지 혁신 요소에 기반해 다양한 비즈니스 환경에서 새로운 가치를 창출하며 모빌리티 패러다임의 전환을 목표로 한다.
