윤석열 대통령이 8일 검찰의 즉시항고 포기·석방 지휘로 체포 52일 만에 석방돼 "불법을 바로잡아준 서울중앙지법 재판부 용기·결단에 감사한다"고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오후 구금돼 있던 경기 의왕시 서울구치소에서 석방돼 정문으로 직접 걸어나오면서 기다리던 지지자·시민들을 향해 손들어 인사를 전한 후 "그동안 추운 날씨에도 불구 응원을 보내주신 많은 국민들·우리 미래세대 여러분께 깊이 감사드린다"고 소회를 전했다.
윤 대통령을 태우기 위해 대통령 경호처 차량이 대기 중이었으나 윤 대통령은 3분여 간 걸어가며 차량과 함께 이동 후 지지자·시민들에 여러 차례 손흔들며 미소 짓고 주먹을 불끈 쥐어 들어 보였다.
윤 대통령은 이날 석방 후 낸 서면메시지에서 "저의 구속에 항의하며 목숨 끊으셨다는 안타까운 소식을 접하고 너무나 마음이 아팠다"며 "진심으로 명복을 빈다"고 전했다.
