브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 26일(현지 시간) 모든 수입산 자동차와 자동차 부품에 대해 25% 관세를 부과하라고 지시했다. 이같은 지시는 오는 4월 2일 상호관세와 함께 발효된다.
이에 따라 대미 의존도가 큰 한국의 자동차 수출은 직격탄을 맞게될 전망이다.
AP통신 보도에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 백악관 집무실에서 해외에서 만들어진 자동차와 경트럭에 25% 관세를 부과한다는 포고문에 서명했다.
트럼프 대통령은 "관세는 오는 4월 2일부터 발효되고, 이튿날인 4월 3일부터 징수가 시작될 것"이라고 설명했다.
피터 나바로 백악관 무역·제조 담당 선임보좌관도 브리핑에서 "수입산 자동차뿐만 아니라 엔진, 변속기, 파워트레인 부품, 전장 부품 등 주요 부품에도 25% 관세가 적용될 것"이라며 "필요한 경우 관세가 적용되는 품목이 확대될 수 있다"고 부연했다.
트럼프 대통령은 수입차 관세부과가 미국이 그동안 다른 나라에 빼앗긴 부를 되찾아오는 일환이라고 주장했다.
그는 "우리는 수년동안 미국에서 사업을 하고, 일자리와 부, 많은 것들을 가져간 국가들에 책임을 물을 것이다"며 "우방이든 적국이든 우리에게서 많은 것을 빼앗았고 솔직히 종종 우방국들이 적국보다 더 나빴다. 그래서 우리가 할 일은 미국산 자동차가 아닌 모든 자동차에 25% 관세를 부과하는 것이다. 만약 미국에서 만들어졌다면 당연히 관세가 없다"고 했다.
그러면서 "많은 해외 자동차 회사들은 이미 미국에 공장이 있지만 그 활용도가 낮다"면서 "(관세 부과로 인해) 그들이 저렴하고 빠르게 미국 내 공장들을 확장할 것이라고 본다"고 말했다.
한편, 수입차 및 부품에 25% 관세를 부과하는 것은 우리 경제에 직격타가 될 전망이다.
한국의 지난해 자동차 수출액은 708억 달러(102조1856억원)으로 이 가운데 절반에 가까운 342억 달러(49조3471억원)가 대미 수출액이다.
일부 미국 내에서 생산되는 물량이 있긴하나, 이 마저도 부품 수출을 통한 현지 조립 방식이어서 자동차 수출이 크게 휘청일 수 있다는 우려가 나오고 있다.

He added, "Many foreign automakers already have factories in the United States, but they are underutilized," and "(due to the tariffs) I think they will expand their factories in the United States cheaply and quickly."
Meanwhile, imposing a 25% tariff on imported cars and parts is expected to be a direct hit to our economy.
Last year, Korea's automobile exports amounted to $70.8 billion (KRW 102.1856 trillion), of which nearly half, or $34.2 billion (KRW 49.3471 trillion), were exported to the US.
Although some of the products are produced in the US, even these are assembled locally through parts exports, which has turned on a red light for automobile exports.
