이날 개강식에는 류완하 총장, 주낙영 경주시장, 이동협 시의회 의장, 이락우 APEC 정상회의 추진지원특별위원장 등 400여 명의 시민들이 참석했다.
이번 시민대학은 2025년 아시아태평양경제협력체(APEC) 정상회의를 앞두고 시민들이 국제 매너와 해외 방문객 응대를 위한 실전 회화 실습을 통해 적극적인 의사소통 능력을 배양하고, 국제행사의 주체로서 활발히 참여할 수 있도록 마련됐다.
APEC 정상회의는 세계 정상과 경제 사절단이 방문하는 국제 행사로, 경주가 단순한 행사 개최지를 넘어 글로벌 문화관광도시로 도약하는 중요한 계기가 될 것으로 예상된다.
동국대 WISE캠퍼스는 이번 개강식을 시작으로 오는 10월까지 총 20회에 걸쳐 글로벌 시민의식 함양과 시민 역량 강화를 위한 교육 프로그램을 진행할 계획이다. 이 교육은 APEC 정상회의의 성공적인 개최를 목표로 하며, 시민들의 국제적 역량을 높이는 데 중점을 둔다.
류완하 총장은 “시민들의 적극적인 참여와 관심 덕분에 '2025 경주 APEC 시민대학'이 성공적으로 운영될 수 있도록 협조를 부탁드린다”며, “동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스는 지역과 함께 성장하는 대학으로서 지속적으로 기여할 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “시민들이 글로벌 역량을 키우고, 국제 사회에서 더 큰 역할을 할 수 있도록 돕는 이번 교육이 매우 중요한 의미를 갖는다”며, “시민들이 자부심을 가지고 경주에서 열리는 세계적인 행사에 주도적으로 참여할 수 있도록 적극적으로 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.
