브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= ‘전통주 기반 지역활성화 정책토론회’가 3월 31일 국회 의원회관 제3세미나실에서 열렸다.
이날 토론회는 전통주 산업의 활성화와 제도적 지원 방안을 논의하기 위한 자리로, 전통주산업진흥원 설립을 위한 본격적인 논의가 시작됐다는 점에서 큰 의미를 가졌다.
이 자리에선 ‘전통주산업진흥원 준비위원회’도 공식 출범했다. 준비위는 전통주 업계의 목소리를 반영한 정책 추진을 목표로 하며, 전통주 제조업체 및 관련 단체들의 적극적인 지지를 받고 있다.
이번 준비위원회 출범에 대해 한국술생산자협회, 우리술문화원 등 130여 개의 전통주 제조업체들이 지지를 표명했다. 참석한 업계 관계자들은 전통주 산업이 자생적인 행정 역량을 갖추고, 정부 정책과 유기적으로 협력해 나가야 한다는 데 공감하며 환영의 뜻을 밝혔다.
이날 토론회는 더불어민주당 김용민 의원과 전통주문화협동조합이 공동 주최했다. 민주당 이재명 대표, 박찬대 원내대표, 김용대 의원 등도 정책토론회 자료집을 통해 전통주 산업에 대한 관심과 지원 의지를 나타냈다.
김용민 의원은 “이번 토론회에서 나온 다양한 의견과 정책 제안들을 당의 정책회의에서 적극적으로 논의하겠다”며 “전통주 산업이 지역 발전과 농업의 미래를 위한 핵심 산업으로 자리 잡을 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 강조했다.
이재명 대표는 행사에는 참석하지 않았으나 메시지를 통해 “전통주는 지역 농산물 소비를 촉진하는 대안 산업이자, 문화·기술·외교가 결합된 전략적 자산”이라며 “정부와 국회가 함께 지속 가능한 성장 기반을 마련해야 한다”고 밝혔다.
이번 토론회에서는 최근 발생한 경북 탁주 공장 화재를 계기로 전통주 산업의 복원성과 전략적 중요성에 대한 논의가 집중적으로 이뤄졌다.
참가자들은 전통주가 단순한 향토 주류가 아닌, 청년 창업, 지역 재생, 식량 안보, K-문화 수출까지 아우르는 ‘미래형 산업’으로 자리 잡아야 한다는 데 의견을 모았다.
한 발표자는 “미국은 농업을 협상의 도구로 활용한다. 우리도 식량을 국제 무역에서 전략적으로 활용해야 한다”며 “전통주는 한국 농업을 보호하고, 지역 경제를 활성화하며, 대한민국의 식문화를 세계에 알릴 수 있는 강력한 수단”이라고 강조했다.
토론회 참석자들은 전통주 산업의 정책적 지원, 기술 인프라 구축, 전통주산업진흥원 설립의 필요성 등에 대해 논의했다. 특히, “전통주는 보호해야 할 유산이 아니라, 세계에서 선택받는 산업으로 발전해야 한다”는 데 뜻을 같이했다.

The ‘Traditional Liquor-based Regional Activation Policy Discussion’ was held in the 3rd seminar room of the National Assembly Members’ Hall on March 31.
The discussion on this day was a place to discuss ways to revitalize the traditional liquor industry and provide institutional support, and it was significant in that it marked the beginning of full-scale discussions for the establishment of the Traditional Liquor Industry Promotion Agency.
The ‘Traditional Liquor Industry Promotion Agency Preparatory Committee’ was also officially launched at this event. Lawmaker Kim Yong-min emphasized, “We will actively discuss the various opinions and policy proposals presented at this discussion at the party’s policy meeting,” and “We will do our best to ensure that the traditional liquor industry becomes a key industry for regional development and the future of agriculture.”
Representative Lee Jae-myung did not attend the event, but said in a message, “Traditional liquor is an alternative industry that promotes consumption of local agricultural products and a strategic asset that combines culture, technology, and diplomacy,” and “The government and the National Assembly should work together to establish a foundation for sustainable growth.”
This discussion focused on the resilience and strategic importance of the traditional liquor industry in the wake of the recent fire at a takju factory in Gyeongbuk.
Participants agreed that traditional liquor should be established as a “future industry” that encompasses youth entrepreneurship, regional regeneration, food security, and K-culture exports, rather than simply a local liquor.
One presenter emphasized, “The United States uses agriculture as a negotiation tool. We should also strategically utilize food in international trade,” and “traditional liquor is a powerful means to protect Korean agriculture, vitalize the local economy, and promote Korea’s food culture to the world.”
Participants in the discussion discussed the need for policy support for the traditional liquor industry, building technological infrastructure, and establishing the Traditional Liquor Industry Promotion Agency. In particular, they agreed that “traditional liquor should not be a heritage to be protected, but should develop into an industry that is chosen by the world.”
