브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국민의힘은 2일 미국이 한반도 안보정책 변화를 시사했다면서 이에 대해 여야가 초당적으로 협력해 대비해야 한다고 강조했다.
신동욱 국민의힘 수석대변인은 이날 논평을 통해 "미국 국방부가 최근 중국의 대만 침공 저지를 최우선 사안으로 지정하고, 동맹국에 국방비 지출을 압박하는 지침을 작성한 사실이 알려졌다"며 "이로 인해 한반도 안보 정책에도 변화가 있을 것이라는 전망이 나오고 있다"고 밝혔다.
신 대변인은 "만약 주한미군의 임무가 기존의 대북 억제에서 대만 방어 및 중국 억제 등으로 확장된다면, 한국의 대북 대비 태세 부담이 커질 수밖에 없다"면서 "아직은 임시적 성격을 띠고 있으며 미국 국방부의 공식 입장이 발표되지는 않았지만, 우리 정부와 군은 모든 가능성을 염두에 두고 철저히 대비해야 한다"고 강조했다.
이어 "향후 주한미군 방위비 분담금 증액과 국방비 인상 압박 가능성이 현실화될 수 있는 만큼, 한반도 안보 태세 점검에 만전을 기해야 한다"고 했다.
신 대변인은 또한 "한반도를 둘러싼 안보 상황이 급변하는 가운데, 북한의 위협이 점점 빈번해지고 고도화되고 있다"며 "우리는 스스로를 방어해야 하는 상황에 직면할 수도 있다"고 지적했다.
그러면서 "정부는 국제 정세를 냉철하게 분석하면서 미국의 국방 전략과 동맹 변화에 유연하게 대비해야 한다"며 "안보에는 여야가 따로 없는 만큼, 민주당도 초당적으로 협력해 줄 것을 촉구한다"고 말했다.
