브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국민의힘은 2일 러시아-우크라이나 전쟁에 파병된 북한군의 대규모 사상자가 났다는 보도와 관련 "이 무도한 행위를 기록해 책임자를 처벌해야 한다"고 비판했다.
호준석 국민의힘 대변인은 이날 논평을 통해 "우크라이나 전쟁에 파병된 북한 군인의 절반 가까이가 죽거나 다쳤다는 비극적인 보도가 나왔다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
호 대변인은 "영국 국방부에 따르면, 1만 1천여 명으로 추정되는 북한 파병 병력 가운데 5천 명 이상이 사상됐으며, 이 중 약 3분의 1이 전사했을 가능성이 높다"며 "북한군 사상자 비율이 높은 것은 대규모로 소모적인 보병 진격 작전을 벌였기 때문"이라고 지적했다. 그러면서 "결국 북한 군인들이 전장에서 총알받이가 된 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
그는 "헌법상 북한 군인들도 대한민국 국민"이라며 "이들은 어디로 가는지도 모르는 채 전장으로 끌려갔고, 포로로 잡히면 배신으로 간주되기 때문에 스스로 자폭하는 경우도 많다"고 말했다.
이어 "결국 전사자의 상당수는 북한 정권에 의해 살해당한 것이나 다름없다"며 "오직 김정은 정권 유지를 위해 수많은 젊은이들이 먼 타국 땅에서 피 흘리며 쓰러지고 있다"고 강조했다.
호 대변인은 "국회는 초당적으로 북한의 파병을 규탄하는 결의안을 채택하고 국제사회에 이 문제를 알려야 한다"며 "이를 위해 민주당의 협력이 반드시 필요하다. 그러나 민주당은 지난해 12월 윤석열 대통령의 강경 발언이 국민 불안을 증폭시킨다는 내용을 북한 규탄 결의안에 포함시키자고 주장해 결국 채택을 무산시켰다"고 강조했다.
그러면서 "북한 인권 실상 조사와 정책 개발을 총괄하는 북한인권재단은 민주당이 이사를 추천하지 않는 방식으로 9년째 출범하지 못하고 있다. 반인륜적 범죄 앞에 여야가 따로 없다. 민주당은 책임 있는 행동을 해야 한다"고 촉구했다.
