대통령실 국가안보실이 2일 방산수출전략평가회의를 열고 방위산업 수출 현황 파악 및 발전 방안과 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 요구한 미 해군 함정 유지·보수·정비(MRO) 등 조선업 협력 등에 대해 논의했다.
안보실은 이날 국방·외교·산업통상자원부·방위사업청 등 정부 부처와 한화에어로스페이스·한화오션·현대로템·풍산·HD현대중공업·KAI·LIG넥스원 등 방산기업과 한국방위산업진흥회·대한무역투자진흥공사(KOTRA·코트라)·방산물자교역지원센터·국방기술진흥연구소 관계자들과 함께 '제7차 방산수출전략평가회의'를 가졌다.
지난 2003년 출범한 방산수출전략평가회의는 관계 부처·기업이 한자리에 모여 방산 수출 전략을 논의하는 협의체다.

또 미 트럼프 행정부 출범에 맞춰 한·미 간 해군 전함 MRO(유지·보수·정비. Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) 협력 강화 방안 역시 논의됐다. 미국은 의회 차원에서 조선업 협력 돕기 입법을 추진하는 등 의지가 강한 가운데 동맹국에서의 군 함정 건조·수리를 전격 허용하는 내용을 담고 있다.
