충남 당진시가 미래형 수산업의 중심지로 거듭나기 위한 발걸음을 재촉하고 있다.
당진시는 4일, 석문간척지를 중심으로 조성 중인 ‘스마트 양식단지 조성사업’이 지방재정 중앙투자심사를 최종 통과했다고 밝혔다.
이로써 당진시는 총 사업비 200억 원(국비 100억 원, 도비 30억 원, 시비 70억 원)을 투입해 정보통신기술(ICT)을 접목한 첨단 양식 기반 시설 조성에 본격 착수하게 된다.
주요 양식 품종으로는 흰다리새우와 블랙타이거새우가 선정되어, 고부가가치 수산물 중심의 스마트 양식 기술이 도입될 예정이다.
특히 이번 사업은 단순한 양식장을 넘어서, 청년 어업인에게 시설을 임대하고 전문 양식인으로 성장할 수 있도록 지원하는 구조로 설계됐다. 단순 고용 창출을 넘어 청년 중심의 친환경 어업 생태계를 구축하겠다는 구상이다.
이번 스마트 양식단지 조성사업은 당진시가 현재 추진 중인 대규모 수산 프로젝트들과 유기적으로 연계된다.
앞서 당진시는 지난달 공모에 선정된 400억 원 규모의 ‘스마트양식 클러스터 조성사업’에 이어, 오는 8월 예비타당성 조사를 앞두고 있는 1900억 원 규모의 ‘수산식품클러스터 조성사업’까지 포함해 총 2500억 원 규모의 초대형 친환경 수산종합단지를 구상 중이다.
이러한 세 사업이 하나로 통합될 경우, 석문간척지는 국내 최초이자 최대 규모의 수산복합단지로 탈바꿈하게 된다. 생산-가공-유통을 모두 아우르는 일원화된 시스템은 수산업의 고도화는 물론, 연관 산업의 집적화를 통해 지역경제에 새로운 활력을 불어넣을 것으로 기대된다.
