브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국민의힘은 8일 이재명 더불어민주당 대표가 지금은 내란 종식이 먼저라며 사실상 개헌을 반대한데 대해 "이미 대통령이 파면된 상황에서 ‘내란 종식’ 운운하며 핑계를 대는 것은 개헌이라는 시대 정신을 무시하고 이번 대선을 오로지 정쟁으로 끌고 가겠다는 것"이라고 비판했다.
신동욱 국민의힘 수석대변인은 이날 논평에서 "20대 대선 공약으로 4년 중임제를 도입하는 헌법 개정을 내세웠고, 과거 성남시장 시절에도 찬성 입장을 내비치더니 이제 와 말을 바꾸는 이유가 무엇이냐"라며 이같이 밝혔다.
신 대변인은 "대통령 선거일이 6월 3일로 확정됐다"라며 "이제 대한민국은 극한의 정쟁과 분열을 수습하고, 국민 통합과 대내외적 위기 극복 등 민생과 국익을 위해 나아가야 한다"고 강조했다.
이어 "그렇기에 최근 제기된 개헌 화두는 극단적 대결 정치를 끝내고, 견제와 균형을 통해 사회 분열을 치유하라는 국민의 명령이자 시대정신"이라고 밝혔다.
신 대변인은 "탄핵 이후 국론 통합에 앞장서기는 커녕 여전히 소모적 정쟁에 골몰하며 어떻게 해서든 정권을 찬탈하겠다는 생각뿐인 민주당과 이재명 대표의 행보야말로 왜 개헌이 필요한지를 말해준다"고 주장했다.
그러면서 "이 대표는 국민을 상대로 한 ‘내란 가스라이팅’을 멈춰야 한다"고 강조했다.
신 대변인은 끝으로 "조금이라도 사회통합과 국가 정상화를 생각한다면, 개헌에 대한 명확한 입장을 국민 앞에 내놓길 바란다"며 "납득할 수 없는 이유로 시대 정신을 외면한 대가는 결코 가볍지 않을 것"이라고 경고했다.
