브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 안덕근 산업통상자원부 장관은 9일 미국이 한국에 25% 상호관세를 발효한 것과 관련, '미국의 관세조치에 우리도 보복관세로 대응해야 한다'는 일각의 주장에 대해 "자해성 피해가 크다"고 반대의사를 피력했다.
안덕근 장관은 이날 국회 산업통상자원중소벤처기업위원회 전체회의에 참석해 "보복관세 형태로 대응하는 경우 우리처럼 무역 의존도가 높은 나라에서는 자해성 피해가 더 커질 수가 있다"고 밝혔다.
그는 미국이 한국에 25% 관세 조치를 한데 대해 "통상당국 입장에서 최선을 다해 트럼프 행정부하고 소통했지만, 바랐던 만큼 반영은 제대로 안 된 것 같다"고 평가하면서도 "산업계랑 협의를 하고 있는 과정에 대부분의 산업계가 공감하고 있는 내용은 '빨리 이 문제를 해결해야지, 이 문제를 더 악화시키는 것은 안 된다'라는 점"이라고 강조했다.
이어 그는 가장 좋은 방법은 '미국과 협의를 통해 풀어가야 한다'는 점을 명확히 했다.
안 장관은 "트럼프 대통령은 기존 관세 정책을 고수하겠다는 입장이지만 협상 여지는 열어 둔 상황으로 보인다"며 "우리는 양국 모두를 위한 거래가 될 수 있는 여건과 가능성을 지니고 있다. 정부는 대미 협상에 총력을 다하면서 국내 기업 피해 최소화를 위해 지원해 나갈 것이다. 정인교 산업부 통상교섭본부장이 미국에서 제이미슨 그리어 무역대표부(USTR) 대표 등 주요 인사를 만나 관세 인하 협상 방안 모색을 포함해 우리 기업에 미칠 부정적 영향을 최소화하는 방안을 협의 중"이라고 전했다.
이와 함께 25% 상호관세 조치로 가장 타격이 큰 업종에 대해선 자동차 등 대미 주력 수출 품목이라고 전망했다.
안 장관은 "미국은 지난달 12일부터 모든 국가에 대해 관세 25%를 부과하고 있다. 우리나라에 적용되던 철강에 대한 263만t의 무관세 쿼터도 폐지됐다"며 "자동차 및 자동차 부품도 관세 25% 부과를 발표했고 승용차 및 경량 트럭에 대해서는 이달 3일부터, 주요 자동차부품은 내달 3일부터 적용될 예정"이라고 설명했다.
아울러 정진욱 더불어민주당 의원은 "미국 거대 메이저 회사는 전부 다 사업성이 없다고 알래스카 가스관 사업 프로젝트에서 빠졌는데, 지금 트럼프 대통령은 한국과 일본을 시켜서 터미널을 만들라고 '종 부리듯'하려는 게 아니냐'고 질의하자, 안 장관은 "우리가 무조건 참여한다고 선언한 게 아니다. 최대한 국익을 우선시 하는 방안으로 신중하게 검토하겠다"고 답했다.
