브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 신동욱 국민의힘 수석대변인은 11일 "어떠한 상황에서도 굳건한 한·미동맹을 구축해야 한다"고 밝혔다.
신 수석대변인은 이날 논평을 통해 "한반도와 인도·태평양 지역을 담당하는 미군 사령관들이 '주한미군이 없어지면 북한이 침공할 가능성이 커진다'며 주한미군 철수·감축론에 부정적인 입장을 밝혔다"고 전하며 "이는 미국이 해외 주둔 미군 재배치를 검토하는 상황에서 주한미군의 철수나 감축이 가져올 부정적 영향을 지적하며, 주둔의 당위성에 힘을 실은 것"이라고 설명했다.
이어 "트럼프 2기 행정부의 외교안보 정책이 급변할 가능성이 있는 가운데, 주한미군이 앞으로는 북한의 도발 대응을 넘어 중국과 러시아의 부상을 견제하는 역할까지 확대될 수 있다는 전망도 제기되고 있다"고 밝혔다.
또한 그는 "자유민주주의와 시장경제 가치를 함께 공유해온 양국은, 상호 신뢰와 협력을 바탕으로 70년간 이어온 동맹을 더욱 공고히 해야 한다"고 강조했다.
신 수석대변인은 "정부는 급변하는 안보 정세 속에서 한·미 간 긴밀한 소통 채널을 유지하면서도, 주한미군 주둔 비용 재협상과 방산 협력 등 모든 가능성을 염두에 두고 만반의 준비를 해야 한다"면서 "동시에 안보와 국익을 지키는 자강 능력 제고를 위한 노력도 지속적으로 경주해야 한다"고 했다.
그러면서 "정치권의 역할도 중요하다. 국회와 정부는 더욱 거세질 안보·경제 충격을 최소화하기 위해 국익 제고에 초점을 맞춘 정책 역량을 함께 모아야 한다"고 강조했다.
