[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시가 14일 상대동 모덕체육공원 일원에서 경남 최대 규모를 자랑하는 ‘진주 모덕암벽장’의 준공식을 개최했다.
이날 행사에는 조규일 진주시장을 비롯해 경남도의원, 진주시의원, 진주시 체육회장, 산악연맹 관계자, 지역 주민 등 약 100여명이 참석했다.
시는 증가하는 등반 수요에 대응하고 체육 인프라를 확충하기 위해 총 42억원의 사업비를 투입, 3,622㎡ 부지에 최신 시설을 갖춘 암벽장을 조성했다.
진주 모덕암벽장은 리드월(폭 24m, 높이 15.7m), 스피드월(폭 6m, 높이 15.7m), 볼더링월(폭 33m, 높이 5m), 실내외 몸풀기벽 등으로 구성됐다.
특히 시는 국내 최초로 스피드 계측기와 볼더링 타이머를 동시에 갖췄으며, 야간 이용을 위한 조명 시설과 주차장, 화장실, 샤워실 등 각종 편의시설도 완비됐다.
조규일 시장은 “많은 시민들이 암벽장을 이용해 스포츠클라이밍 종목이 활성화되길 기대한다”며“진주시가 서부 경남의 레저스포츠 중심지로 도약해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

Jinju City held a completion ceremony for the ‘Jinju Moduk Climbing Wall’, the largest in Gyeongnam Province, at the Moduk Sports Park in Sangdae-dong on the 14th.

Jinju Moduk Climbing Wall consists of a lead wall (24m wide, 15.7m high), a speed wall (6m wide, 15.7m high), a bouldering wall (33m wide, 5m high), and indoor/outdoor warm-up walls.
