[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 김해시는 외동 경운공원에 ‘류진옥 애국지사 기념시비’를 건립했다고 15일 밝혔다. 

류진옥 애국지사는 1919년 한국의 독립 의지를 국제사회에 알리고자 작성된 유림대표의 ‘파리장서’에 서명한 137인 중 한 명으로, 그 공로를 인정받아 1999년 정부로부터 건국포장을 추서받은 김해를 대표하는 독립운동가이다.

시는 오는 18일 기념비 제막식 행사를 개최한다. 

기념시비는 지역 주민이 제안한 주민참여예산 사업으로 건립됐다. 

제안자는 경운공원을 향토정신과 애국정신이 담긴 쾌적한 공원으로 조성하고자 노후시설 정비와 함께 외동 출신 애국지사의 기념비 설치를 제안했다.

기념시비는 류진옥 애국지사의 항일정신과 계몽정신이 담긴 시문 2면과 그의 약력과 해설문 각 1면, 총 4면으로 구성돼 지역의 역사적 가치를 전하는 교육의 장으로 활용된다.

강성식 공원과장은 “주민 제안으로 김해 출신 독립운동가 기념시비를 도시공원에 건립하게 돼 의미가 크다"며 "향토정신을 널리 알리고 애국정신을 후세에 전할 수 있는 공간이 되길 바란다”고 밝혔다.

‘Ryu Jin-ok Patriot Memorial Monument’ Established in Gimhae Gyeongun Park

Gimhae City announced on the 15th that it has established the ‘Ryu Jin-ok Patriot Memorial Monument’ in Oedong Gyeongun Park.

Ryu Jin-ok, a patriotic activist, is one of the 137 people who signed the ‘Paris Book’ written by Confucian scholars in 1919 to inform the international community of Korea’s will for independence. In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation by the government in 1999. She is a representative independence activist of Gimhae.

The city will hold an unveiling ceremony for the monument on the 18th.

The monument was established as a participatory budget project proposed by local residents.

The proposer proposed the installation of a monument to the patriotic activist from Oedong along with the maintenance of aging facilities in order to create a pleasant park filled with local spirit and patriotism in Gyeongun Park.

The memorial stone is composed of two pages of poems containing the anti-Japanese spirit and enlightenment spirit of patriot Ryu Jin-ok, and one page each of his biography and explanatory text, and is used as an educational space to convey the historical value of the region.

Park Director Kang Seong-sik said, “It is very meaningful that the memorial stone for the independence activist from Gimhae was erected in the city park at the suggestion of residents,” and added, “I hope that it will become a space where the spirit of the hometown can be widely known and the spirit of patriotism can be passed down to future generations.”
