브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 현대백화점그룹 지주회사인 현대지에프홀딩스는 17일 경기도 용인시 처인구 이동읍 묵리에서 ‘제2호 탄소중립의 숲’ 조성 기념행사를 진행했다고 밝혔다.
이날 행사에는 장호진 현대지에프홀딩스 사장과 강혜영 북부지방산림청장, 허상만 생명의숲 이사장 등 관계자 40여 명이 참석했다.
탄소중립의 숲은 일상생활과 산업활동 등을 통해 배출되는 이산화탄소를 다시 흡수하기 위해 조성하는 숲으로, 산림청이 민간 기업 및 시민단체 등과 공동으로 추진중인 민관협력 사업이다. 현대백화점그룹은 2022년부터 탄소중립의 숲 조성에 동참하고 있다.
현대백화점그룹의 제1호 탄소중립의 숲은 경기도 용인시 처인구 백암면 박곡리 일대에 16.5ha(약 5만평) 규모로, 지난해까지 약 3만 그루의 나무를 식재했다.
이번 제2호 탄소중립의 숲은 총 9ha(약 3만평) 규모로, 현대백화점그룹은 오는 2029년까지 추가로 약 2만여 그루의 나무를 심고 가꿀 예정이다. 이와 동시에 제1호 탄소중립의 숲의 안정화를 위해 풀베기, 토양관리 등 숲가꾸기 작업도 함께 지속해 나간다는 방침이다.
장호진 현대지에프홀딩스 사장은 “미래세대를 위한 지속 가능한 환경 조성에 기여하고자 한다”며 “앞으로도 기후 위기 대응을 위한 친환경적인 가치와 문화가 확산될 수 있도록 국·공유림과 도심 곳곳에 나무를 심고 숲을 조성하는 진정성 있는 친환경 활동을 지속해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 현대백화점그룹은 그룹 통합 ESG 브랜드인 ‘리그린’(Re.Green)과 ‘위드림’(We.Dream)을 통해 친환경 활동과 사회공헌사업을 진행하고 있다. 지난해에는 충청북도 청주시와 도심 속 유휴공간을 친환경적으로 복원한 도시 숲 ‘리그린 파크’를 시민들에게 선보인 바 있다.
