[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 김해시미래인재장학재단은 18일 김해시청 성우회(회장 신종기)에서 장학기금 500만원을 기탁했다고 밝혔다.
김해시청 성우회는 1995년 설립된 시청 직원들의 카톨릭 신자 모임으로, 교파를 초월해 사회에 대한 봉사와 자선사업 실천을 기본이념으로 삼고, 2013년부터 관내 성당 배움터 등을 통해 꾸준히 기부활동을 이어오고 있다.
올해는 김해시 통합 30주년이 되는 뜻깊은 해로, 김해시청 내 카톨릭 신자 모임인 성우회가 설립된 지도 30년이 되는 해이기도 하다.
그동안 수녀님들이 운영하는 저소득층 아동 배움터성바오로 배움터(김해 내동)와 외국인 노동자가 많은 지역 특성을 반영해 김해 이주노동자 사목센터, 가톨릭 복지시설(김해 삼방동) 등에 꾸준히 기부활동을 편 김해시청 성우회는 올해 지역의 학생들을 위해 500만원의 장학금을 전달했다.
신종기 회장은 “예전에는 회원수가 70여명에 달했지만, 요즘은 직장 생활에서도 종교나 사생활에 관한 것은 금기시되는 풍토라 회원수는 20여명으로 작은 규모이지만 회원 모두가 남는 것을 나누기보다 지금 내가 가진 것을 공동체와 함께하자는 의미로 장학금을 기탁하게 됐다”고 밝혔다.
홍태용 시장은 “시청 내 가치 있는 직원들의 모임이 있다는 사실이 자랑스럽다”며 “직원들의 따뜻한 마음이 잘 전달될 수 있도록 장학재단과 함께 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
