1997년 12월 18일에 시행된 15대 대선, 김대중 후보의 대통령 당선은 기적이었다. 그 기적은 DJP연합(김대중+김종필+박태준)이 가져다 주었다. DJP연합이란, 민주화 세력+박정희 산업화 세력+호남세력+충청세력이 연합하는 구도였다. DJP연합은 대선 전인 그해 10월 26일에 성사됐다.
