브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 신동욱 국민의힘 수석대변인은 22일 "한미 통상 협의에 돌입한 지금, 국익 앞에 초당적으로 힘을 모아야 한다"고 밝혔다.
신 수석대변인은 이날 논평을 통해 "한국과 미국이 통상 협의에 돌입했다"며, "한국 관세 인하와 유예를 위한 '2+2(재무·통상) 협의'에 나서는 우리 정부는 범부처 대표단을 꾸려 조선, LNG, 무역균형 등 핵심 의제를 중심으로 총력 대응에 나서고 있다"며 이같이 말했다.
그는 "관세 전쟁의 한복판에서 국익을 지키기 위한 외교 총력전이 시작된 것"이라며 "이번 협상은 단순한 통상 논의를 넘어 한국 경제의 미래와 직결된 중대한 분기점이다. 이미 대미 수출은 위축됐고, 주요 품목에는 고율 관세가 예고돼 있다. 미국발 보호무역은 더 이상 우려가 아닌 현실"이라고 지적했다.
이어 "이제는 치밀한 대응이 절실하며, 타국의 협상 사례도 긴밀히 분석해야 한다"면서 "알래스카 LNG 프로젝트나 방위비 분담 같은 민감한 사안에는 냉철하고 단호한 대응이 필요하다"고 말했다.
신 수석대변인은 또한 "외교력과 판단력이 요구되는 중대한 국면에서 정치권의 역할도 매우 중요하다"며 "어떤 협상 전략도 정치권의 분열과 정쟁 속에서는 힘을 잃을 수밖에 없다"고 강조했다. 그러면서 "민주당은 협상력을 약화시키는 언행을 자제해야 한다"고 말했다.
끝으로 그는 "정부는 국익을 지키기 위한 모든 외교적 역량을 쏟아주길 당부한다"며 "이번 협의가 실질적 성과와 함께 한미 동맹을 더욱 굳건히 하는 계기가 되기를 기대한다"고 덧붙였다.
