브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= KT&G는 지난 22일 유라시아 시장의 생산거점이 될 카자흐스탄 신공장 준공식을 개최했다고 23일 밝혔다.
카자흐스탄 알마티 주(州)에 위치한 현지 공장에서 열린 준공식에는 방경만 KT&G 사장과 술탄가지예프 마랏 일로시조비치 알마티 주지사, 조태익 주카자흐스탄한국대사 등 100여 명의 주요 관계자들이 참석했다.
KT&G 카자흐스탄 신공장은 5만2000㎡의 연면적에 생산 설비 3기가 설치돼 연간 45억 개비의 제품을 생산할 수 있다. 최근 성장 중인 유럽과 CIS(독립국가연합) 등 유라시아 시장 수요에 대응하는 수출 전초기지이자 핵심 생산거점이 될 예정이다.
카자흐스탄 신공장 건립은 KT&G가 2023년 1월 ‘미래 비전 선포식’을 통해 밝힌 자본적 지출(CAPEX) 투자의 일환이다. KT&G는 해외 직접사업 확대 등 본원적인 경쟁력 강화를 통해 2027년 글로벌 매출 비중을 50% 이상으로 끌어올릴 계획이다.
KT&G는 이번 신공장 완공을 통해 대한민국, 인도네시아, 러시아, 카자흐스탄 등으로 이어지는 ‘글로벌 생산체제’를 구축하게 됐다. 또한, 인도네시아에 내년 완공을 목표로 추가 신공장을 건설하는 등 해외 사업 확대를 위한 성장투자를 진행중이다. KT&G는 해외 생산 거점들을 중심으로 생산부터 영업∙유통까지 직접 관리하는 현지 완결형 밸류체인을 구축해 수익성 제고에 주력할 방침이다.

한편, KT&G는 이날 준공식 이후 현지 산림 조성을 돕는 ‘Green Globe Project’ 추진을 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다. 해당 프로젝트를 통해 2023년 6월 카자흐스탄 아바이 주(州)에서 발생했던 대규모 산불 피해 복구를 지원할 계획이다.
이번 업무협약은 KT&G와 카자흐스탄 생태∙천연자원부, 아시아 지역 최초의 산림분야 전문 국제기구인 아시아산림협력기구(AFoCO, Asian Forest Cooperation Organization)와의 3자 협력을 바탕으로 체결됐다. 협약에 따라 세 기관은 피해지역 복구 및 재발방지 대책 마련, 복원 효과 모니터링 등을 공동 추진할 계획이다. 이는 민간기업 최초의 아바이 주(州) 산불 피해 복구사업 동참 사례가 될 전망이다.
