[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시가 올해부터 전면 시행한 ‘어린이·청소년 시내버스 100원 요금제’가 눈에 띄는 성과를 내며, 타 지자체의 모범 사례로 주목받고 있다.
시는 지난 1월부터 3월까지 시내버스 이용 실적을 분석한 결과, 어린이 이용 건수는 전년 동기 대비 약 43.3% 증가한 14만 4,525건을 기록했다.
또 청소년 이용 건수도 약 33.1% 늘어난 117만 2,308건으로 집계됐으며, 지난해 같은 기간 이용 건수는 어린이 10만0827건, 청소년 88만0522건으로 집계됐다.
시는 이 같은 수치가 100원 요금제가 대중교통 이용 활성화와 교통비 부담 완화, 친환경 교통문화 확산에 긍정적인 기여를 하고 있는 것으로 평가하고 있다.
이러한 성공적인 정책 추진에 따라 벤치마킹하기 위해 양산시의회 대중교통연구회(대표 신재향 의원) 소속 의원 및 관계자들이 28일 진주시를 방문했다.
방문단은 100원 요금제의 추진 배경과 운영 현황, 이용자 반응, 향후 계획 등을 청취하고, 성공 요인과 운영 노하우를 공유하는 시간을 가졌다.
