(사단법인)푸른아시아는 4월30일치 보도자료에서 “(사단법인)푸른아시아(이사장 손봉호)와 ㈜기후경영연구원(대표 이재원)이 온실가스 관리, 기후변화 대응 연구 및 지속가능경영 컨설팅 등을 위해 손을 맞잡았다”고 알렸다.

푸른아시아는 기후변화로 피해를 겪는 지역사회와 연대해 지속가능한 공동체 모델 구축과 확산을 목표로 활동하고 있는 국제 NGO로 1998년 설립돼 다양한 활동을 이어오고 있다. 특히 몽골 사막화 방지 및 생태 복원 사업을 20년 넘게 진행한 가운데 2014년 UN사막화방지협약(UNCCD)이 수여하는, 기후변화·사막화 방지 분야 노벨상으로도 불리는 ‘생명의 토지상(Land of Life)’최우수상(First Prize)을 수상한 바 있다.
기후경영연구원은 글로벌 ESG 공시 의무화 등을 앞두고 국내 기업들의 기후위기 대응 및 지속가능한 경영 전략의 수립·실행은 물론 기후공시 등에 대한 발빠른 대응을 지원하는 ESG 및 지속가능경영 분야의 종합(one-stop)서비스 제공을 목표로 설립됐다.
두 기관은 이번 협약을 통해 △전문 인력 교류 및 공동 사업 추진 △기후변화 대응 및 탄소중립 관련 정보 공유 △ESG·지속가능경영 관련 워크숍 등 공동행사 개최 △기업 온실가스 배출량 산정과 보고, TNFD(자연 관련 재무정보 공개), CDP(탄소정보공개 프로젝트), SBTi(과학기반 감축목표 이니셔티브) 등 다양한 분야에 걸친 컨설팅 사업 등을 함께 추진한다.
또 푸른아시아가 세계자원연구소(WRI)와 공식 번역 계약을 통해 조만간 내놓을 온실가스 산정·보고의 글로벌 지침으로 통용되는 GHG프로토콜(Greenhouse Gas Protocol) 번역본에 대한 교육과 컨설팅 관련 업무협력도 진행할 계획이다. GHG프로토콜은 2023년 CDP에 보고한 S&P500 기업의 97%가 활용했다는 공식자료(GHG프로토콜 공식 웹사이트- https://ghgprotocol.org)에서 보듯 온실가스 산정과 보고에 있어 독보적인 지침이다.

고재광 푸른아시아 사무처장은 “이번 협약을 통해 두 기관이 지식과 정보를 공유하고 전문가 교류를 이어가면서 성장하는 계기로 삼고, 이를 바탕으로 기업들에게 보다 전문적이고 공신력 있는 교육과 서비스를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
