이주호 대통령 권한대행 부총리 겸 교육부 장관이 2일 "북한이 어떤 도발·책동도 획책할 수 없도록 빈틈없는 대비 태세를 유지하기 바란다"고 강조했다.
이 권한대행은 이날 오전 서울 종로구 정부서울청사에서 열린 국가안전보장회의(NSC)를 주재하며 모두 발언을 통해 "NSC가 국가 안위·국토 안전을 보전하는 동시에 국민께서 안보 불안으로 조금도 염려 않도록 배전의 노력을 해야 할 시기"라며 이같이 밝혔다.
이 대행은 전날 한덕수 전 대통령 권한대행 국무총리의 21대 대선 출마에 따른 사퇴 및 더불어민주당의 여야 합의 없는 일방적 국회 탄핵안 의결 직전 사퇴한 최상목 전 부총리 겸 기획재정부 장관의 부재로 인해 이날 0시부터 대행직을 이어받았다.

한편 대통령경호처는 이날 0시부로 이 대행에 대해 대통령에 준한 경호에 들어간 가운데 경호 수준은 대통령에 준해 적용되며 경호 대상은 이 대행과 배우자다.
