천주교정의구현전국사제단은 지난 5월6일 '성명서'를 발표했다.
이 성명서에서 “우리는 그날 대법관들의 근엄한 표정에서 의인 한 사람을 십자가에 매달았던 성경의 대제관들을 떠올렸습니다”고 전제하고 아래 5개항은 성명 내용을 발표했다. 아래는 5개항 전문이다.
1. 내란수괴가 파면되고 가까스로 제21대 대선 일정이 확정됨에 따라 민주주의 회복과 안정을 기대하게 된 주권자들 머리 위에 느닷없이 불화로가 쏟아졌다. 지난 5월 1일 대법원이 너무나 사소한 두 마디를 구실로 ‘허위사실유포’라는 희대의 죄를 씌워 여론조사에서 압도적 1위를 달리는 후보의 피선거권을 박탈하고자 한 것이다. 대법원장 조희대가 주도하고 대법관 10명이 공모한 판결을 시중에서는 사상초유의 ‘사법쿠데타’라고 부른다. 이의를 달기 어려운 명명이다. 이로써 아무리 원통하고 억울해도 “사법부의 판결을 존중한다”며 순순히 감옥으로 걸어가던 존중과 승복의 전통은 끝이 났다. 대법원 스스로 자초한 비극이다.

4. 지금 수구기득권 카르텔은 이참에 민주주의 자체를 아예 멸절시키고자 일심단결, 사생결단의 기세로 달려들고 있다. 이런 무시무시한 역사적 반동에 반격하자면 민주시민들 또한 사력을 다해서 싸워야 한다. 시퍼런 칼을 들고 와서 내 혈육의 목숨을 위협하는 강도를 대화나 타협으로 구스를 수 없다. 사법부의 난동을 막기 위해 한 사람도 빠짐없이 가진 힘을 보태야 한다. 지난겨울도 그랬지만 앞으로 한 달 우리의 수고에 우리와 자식들의 운명이 달려 있다. 아울러 국회는 자신에게 주어진 모든 권한을 행사하는 데 맹수처럼 날래고 대범하기를 바란다. 마지막으로 사법부에 명령한다. 주권자인 국민이 자신의 권한을 누구에게 맡길지 선택하는 문제에 감히 상관하려 들지 말라!
